I rather doubt that it is a local. The # we called both last night and this morning is the 1-800 one on the power bill.

Who knows, the computer could have farted, happens here often enough. But if it WAS intentional the person needs to be talked to, strongly.

We survived and tis over so really matters not.

Burning some of the wood from the tree now. Been heating with it since about 3 this afternoon. Being pine will have to take care with creosote deposits in the flue but spaced with oak isn't much of a problem.

Sounds like a fun night. Give me a time, and I will have a talk with my uncle if you wish, and see if he can figure out who it was. He is in charge of dispatching the linemen for this entire area, I bet he would be interested in knowing about the incident...if he hasn't heard already. He may have. I will definitely bring it up when next I see him--which I might, during the holidays...
Glad it turned out all right in the end. I agree with you--it's good to have linemen around, and even if I was half my size, I wouldn't want their job for a WHOLE lot more than they make. The only guarantees are that when you are needed most, it will be very crappy weather, and a very dangerous situation. No thanks. I'm glad they are there, and kudos to them. Whatever you might think about the company itself, it is people like that (and in quite a few other unsung jobs) that actually keep civilization going. Now, if we could just get rid of the political asshats...
