Sounds like a sequential vortex to me. I know how THAT goes...

Spent the day yesterday with the Apple guy, getting the new network going. Looks like it's going to be more of a PITA to swap everyone over than I thought, mainly because I didn't think through far enough to see the obvious. Oh, well, it's nothing I haven't done before, just this time it will be EVERYBODY. So I guess that means I will just have to come up with a plan, a method, and a schedule. I'm quite sure that by the time I do a couple of dozen, I'll have it down pat for the other ~170. Job security, it is...

The Apple guy ended up staying over due to a configuration problem dealing with Windoze. What a shock. He has a Macbook Pro that he has virtualization software on that is really amazing. I mean, I have heard (and hear) about virtualization, but I am going to have to give it a try REAL soon. When he hit this problem (or, more accurately, after he had been working on it for quite a while and realized he wasn't going to get done yesterday) he made an image of the server he is configuring for us and took it with him when he went to get a hotel room. That way, he can mount the server in a virtual machine, and mount an XP image in another virtual machine, and keep right on trying things out without having to be there on our campus. Neat! I think if I want two (or more) OSes on one machine, that I will see about virtualizing all but one of them. He told me about several different ways to do it, and the advantages/disadvantages of them. I'll have to give it a whirl....

Well, gotta get going back for another day at the salt mines. Hope it's cooler there today. Have a good one.
