Another test

By , December 30, 2007 11:48 am

Ignore if you want…

Well the Google XML sitemap generator crapped out yet again. Finally got it to work after the 3rd try at manually activating it after cutting off the notify Ask.com bit. So now gonna try it with that turned back on, adding a standard post and see if it was a server problem or something in the notifying part.

And yet another update

By , December 30, 2007 11:41 am

Just getting through with yet another WordPress update.

While I was at it I decided to try the new(ish) wiggets thingie for the sidebar. It gets rid of having to hand code my changes every time as well as some of the plug-ins I have had to install such as the bit that shows the latest comments. Easy enough to work with too, being just a drag and drop to add, remove, and rearrange.

Looks and works good enough. Now to see how it posts and does it’s background update to google and ask.com.

Testing, testing…

By , December 24, 2007 9:30 pm

Weird things happening when I save a post. Comments working fine. Think it is the Google sitemap thingie. Just changed it to allow background processing for new posts which is why I am writing this content-less post.

Update… Just saved it and everything worked like it should. Guess the background processing is the way to go since it is taking over 12 seconds to process the 3000 + posts on here.

More changes on the site

By , December 19, 2007 2:34 pm

Nothing added, just removing a bunch of time/bandwidth wasting crap.
Since there was no response (several months ago) about the insult of the day I finally removed it.
Also removed the technoratti (sp is wrong and I ain’t taking time to figure it out or look it up) code as it was taking several seconds to do it’s thing.
Redid all the recent posts that had pix and added more tags to cut down on the # of pix having to download.
Also cut the # of posts on the front page to 20.
Now to find a basic theme that has 2 columns and no background color or max column size.

Upgraded WordPress to latest and greatest

By , December 19, 2007 1:17 pm

Just got through upgrading WordPress to the latest version 2.3.1 and think I got all the plug-ins and extra stuff done. Was just going to go with the default layout but the small width squishes the pix I have on here so am back with the black for now.

If you see/find anything broken please let me know in either comments or by email: depatty at gmail dot com.

Thanks for reading

Something broken in previous theme

By , September 12, 2007 10:38 pm

Don’t know if I broke it or what but the comments aren’t working right. So am back with this one for a bit till I figure the problem with the other one.

Another new look

By , September 6, 2007 10:34 pm

Yep, another one to try to get accustomed to. I saw this theme which is called Very Plain Text at Joey’s new site, The Adventures of Accordion Guy in the 21st Century, and it struck me as being just what I was looking for. Plain, simple, and something to let the content shine through. So after beating out a few dents and dings and modifying it here and there, here it is for your viewing pleasure. Or not. as the case may be.

Like it?

Hate it?

Let me know…

More on the new theme

By , July 31, 2007 3:18 pm

Was gonna make this a comment under the previous post but after typing a bit decided it deserved a post of it’s own.

Sorry for the early morning shock, Steve. 😉 Got to looking at the site last night and the whole thing was just looking stale to me, so I got to poking around the web and this is what I came up with after going through a few hundred wp themes.

Been working on it a bit today (after sweltering outside for most of the morning). Got the recent comments and some other stuff back in the sidebar and this one is feeling/looking a lot better to me.

The Hobbit theme looks nice and kinda has the look and feel I would like but I am leaning more toward an expandable (sidewise) theme to make use of the available screen real estate and there is just no way to make it do that without a complete rewrite.

I may try to do something with the header on this one and then again I may not. As it sits now it seems to load quickly and should work on most current browsers, so will just have to wait and see if it rubs or chaffs…

Playing with new themes

By , July 30, 2007 11:11 pm

If things look weird and broken tis just me playing with the themes. Am gonna stop for the nonce with the Nikz Black and see how it works. Not the one I really want but the one I like needs a lot of mods to work the way I want it to.

Like it? Hate it? Let me know…

Upgrading WordPress

By , January 23, 2007 1:52 pm

Am getting ready to upgrade the WordPress installation so the look will be a bit different till I get all the bits and bobs changed over.

And yes, I do feel a bit better today.  Not much though and not gonna push it today in the hope of being back to at least 50% tomorrow…

Blog Stats

By , November 15, 2006 12:36 pm

Blog Stats for Technoprimitive.org – There are currently 2,586 posts and 335 comments, contained within 79 categories.

Just noted that I had broken the 2500 barrier some time ago.  Doesn’t seem like I could have made that many posts.  Nor did I think that I had that many categories.  So many interesting things on the “interwebs” to read and post about, so little time… 😉

Avast Me Harties! It be Talk Like A Pirate Day!

And the Talk Like A Pirate Day WordPress filter is in place here at Technoprimitive.org. 😉

Talk Like A Pirate Day

Aarrrr!

A comment with a title like “Are you there?” is NOT going to get approved

By , September 8, 2006 6:07 pm

The comment spammers are now using stuff like:

Are you there?…

All the darkness in the world cannot put out the smallest candle. The darker it is, more brightly shines the candle. instead of complaining about the dark search for your candle. Believe me; It exists…

To try to get comments by the spam cops but all of the comments that are made here are either caught by Akismet (which is a WordPress plugin that uses a central database to track and catch spam, cool idea and well apprecated here for sure) or by me as I have to approve all of the comments whether made by friend or foe before they see the light of the cpu on your end.  Wish they would all quit with this crap but somehow someone is making money off of this.

This is a test

And only a test.  Please ignore.

MicroShop – Red Alt

By , September 1, 2006 1:26 am

MicroShop – Red Alt

This looks quite interesting. MicroShop is a shopping cart for WordPress with a paypal gateway built in.  Been looking for something like this for over a year and just stumbled on it tonight.   Wasn’t even looking for a shopping cart!  Have downloaded it and will try it later today. If it works like I think it will then guess I get to redo several sites that I thought were finished… Mainly cause WordPress will be easier to use for small sales sites, both to setup and to maintain than ANY of the ecommerce programs I have used and tried to use. They are just too complacated for anyone but a geek to setup and run and they want way to much info on each item. /rant

More after I try it… [Does a happy dance when no one is looking]

Now Feedburner has quit showing updated feeds and Technorati is saying it never heard of my blog

By , August 31, 2006 6:06 pm

Title says just about all. Been trying to figure out what the problem is and still haven’t a clue. Checked my robots.txt file and corrected some things there but even that shouldn’t have blocked either of them. Must not be my week…

TechnoPrimitive » Blog Archive » Updated and Technorati still not working right

TechnoPrimitive » Blog Archive » Updated and Technorati still not working right

Well another day and still not working.  Have sent them mail and no response.

Decided to see if something in my old template was blocking it so put the new default template in place and modified it so as to conform with the way I had the other one set up.  After a bit of fiddling around with the header image got it to work and look right.  Still no joy.  So decided to see if they would show an update or link if I linked to a post in my own blog, which is the reason for this post.  We’ll see…

Search links fixed

By , August 30, 2006 7:44 pm

I hope they are anyway.  Added the archives/ back into the custom field and now they are showing the page instead of a 404.  If they are still broken please comment to this post.

Search may turn up with broken links

By , August 30, 2006 7:41 pm

When I redid the site today I restructured the archived things according to the way wordpress said to and now stuff is broken when people are doing searches.  If you are here from yahoo or google you may try removing the “archive/” from the link they gave you and it may get you to the right page.   Guess it’s back to the drawing board. Will see what I can do.

upgrade in progress

Stuff may break so if it looks funny(er) than usual tis probably just I.
Back soon (I hope).
