Feast or famine. Seems like nothing in between.

Working at Valley Friday though Sunday and then Wednesday of next week. And have folks waiting for me to get time to work on their clocks.

One thing about it is that it’s been a REAL learning experience.

Gonna have to install at least 9 bushings too. Already quoted so may make a dollar an hour over parts cost if nothing else blows up on me.

Think there will be enough slop in the meshing gear for everything to work. If not will have to make a new gear for it. :-(

Put it in the lathe and bored the center out to fit a brass sleeve and soldered it in. Did a bit of filing around the tooth that was split.

This clock has been a real pain. Found one gear that was loose on the minute shaft and after looking closely found a crack in it.

Just got the last of the trundles cut and installed in the 2 lantern pinions. Now to finish polishing the pivots & then doing the bushings.

Saved $40 to $50 over what the same stuff would have run locally at Wally World.

I had .032″ and .047″ but nothing in between so took the 50 mile round trip to Gadsden. Did a grocery run to Aldi’s while there.

Went to the (semi)local Hobby Lobby this afternoon after discovering that I needed to replace 13 trundles that were .039″ in diameter.

Looked at Swiss burnishers a few minutes ago and the suckers have gone up to $90. I priced them last year and thought them high at $70. :-(

Thinking that the leather on a stick will work much better. Hoping to get all the tool stuff done and get back to working on clocks soon.

Decided to glue up a leather buffing stick while I was at it. Been just using a strip of leather with compound on it for final polish.

New set of sanding sticks glued up and drying. Using hide glue this time rather than rubber cement as the last ones had high spots.

Obama breaks the rules, appoints nature-lover to Interior instead of oil-lover http://t.co/12xxZIbC AWESOME!

Not sure if I’m doing something wrong or if the metal it’s made of is just crap. Made in India so may just be crap. The $70+ one is Swiss.

Got the sandpaper and finished the burnisher. And it doesn’t work. :-( Went back to using the sandpaper sticks and polishing compound.
