got the mail this morning and more bills. one in particular that has pissed me off is the phone bill. 42.98 is what they want this month and they added a note that it will increase next month by over $2 for me to not make long distance calls. Got news for them though. It isn't gonna cause I am canceling the land line. Got the cell phone and am NOT gonna pay for something I am not using (long distance). Them boys can kiss my ass. putting out over 500 a year for nothing. gonna have a higher cell bill as will have to add a phone for cat but the added cost on that bill will be less than what we are being charged by the bell systems now.

Paid the cable bill. that is another one that has gone up but without it we don't have any way of high speed access so guess it is a necessary evil. at least for now. the cell companys are working on high speed wireless access in some areas now. course it will cost out the ass. Wish there was a way to do the satellite number without it costing more than the cable. I keep thinking about getting a mac mini and doing the co-lo thing with it. but there is another 25 a month that I can host here with a domain redirect. or i can keep going like i am now and depend on a host somewhere in the ether.

Got a batch of block from the 14 wide and moved them over here. rebuilt the living room steps and the greenhouse end steps. much better now. Got shelving steel to put up some new shelves for the plants. Then I get to move them all again… got to move the greenhouse door prior to moving the plants. Need to build a woodbox that has a outside door and inside door. load from outside and fill heater from inside. no cold air from door being open. got the wood. just need to find the energy…

got the last of the 2×8's from the 14 wide too. going to take the blocks out from under it in the next few days. course got to fix a dozer to take the trees down over here first.

the wheels that I built for moving the trailers will fit under the trailer hitch on bertha. got to cut some arcs in each end and it will fit right in under the channel iron at the bottom. figure on 4 steel plates with holes in each end and long hardened bolts or if i can find some ubolts that would work too. or chain which would be simplier. should just need to hold it in place till weight is put on it and then shouldn't have a problem. gonna make steering a bit weird but if it will keep the ass end of the truck out of the mud should be able to get the trailer over here. now got to wait for dry weather again to make the pull. got the truck a bit stuck outside here this afternoon. few new ruts in the front yard. oh well. will fill them in with all the others when I get the time.

gonna take a few days here soon and go somewhere. got an invite to st. simons island with free room for a night or two that I may have to take the guy up on. would rather head south along the gulf coast. got a few things to do to the van and others that have to be finished up here but soon…

Been busy this am. Got the rest of the wood cut and stacked under cover or inside. Big pot of assorted dry bean, ham, brown rice, celery and carrots cooking on the Ashley. Old beans and rice cleaned out of the kitchen center top shelf and thrown out for the birds, and whatever other critters that are interested.

Still thinking about getting the parlor stove and putting it in here (living room of 12 wide). Got the flue pipe, metal for the window and ells. Only thing missing is a shield for the wall and carpet. Was out looking at the old water heaters yesterday afternoon and the outside metal housing on them would work just fine. May go out in a bit and try to remove it from one and see how much trouble it will be to get it off and cut to use. Another possibility is refrigerator doors. Got some that are metal and foam and others that are metal and fiberglass.

As it is raining/sleeting right now I am not sure when I will be able to get to that. Got to go to the folks to get my handtrucks if I do try to put it in. I suspect it would be a good idea though I have got about 9 gallons of kerosene for the kerosene heater which should carry us through any power outage that may occur if this does turn into an ice storm.

And on that vein I guess I need to go to the 14 wide and get the kerosene lanterns just in case.

Getting closer. To total insanity. Every time I think I am closing the gap on gotta do's that sucker takes a running leap at the horizon and disappears.

We got the first 2 loads moved into the 12 wide. Almost got them arranged. Several times a day. Got it figured out on the next load too I think. Still leaves the China cabinet to go. Where I am sitting is the logical place in this trailer to put it. And I don't have to be here. But where I want to have my office doesn't exist yet. So.

The living room south wall from the sofa to the west corner is going to be occupied by the 12 foot long book shelf. Tis about 3 feet high so we can put the wire video shelves on the wall from the top to the ceiling. Should be able to get 4 video shelves over each 4 foot section. As there is a window in the middle that will be 8 shelves total. Which should just finish out the video (tape and dvd) storage requirements.

We have got to get a dvd burner to transfer the tapes to disk with. I hate the expense in both time and money but if not done soon a lot of them will be unusable. Some of them are already damaged but I think we can record most of them. Another project…

Tv and assorted equipment will go on the sideboard for now. Will put something on top of it to protect the surface. Should get the equipment up to a good height. At least I hope it will work there. If not we will move the old couch into the back room where the tools are now and put the sideboard where on the living room south wall next to the book case. The other china cabinet will fit over here next to the north wall between the front of my desk and the other couch. Recliner will be in front of it. May move the old couch anyway and put the chair now on the north wall there which will allow moving the north wall couch east another 3 feet and the recliner to move into the area thence freed. Only thing left to move is the round table that needs to belong to someone else anyway. May put it at pch for sale. Or yard sale it. Or picture and on ebay or BluespringsBazaar.com.

Qhut is different. Got the old computer table area removed so is open(er) now. Breakfast table is in there for now. Will move it somewhere when the dinningroom table comes over. Guess the greenhouse will be best for now. Got to get started on that bit too. SOON.

Second floor. got most of the materials. just got to move the plants. somewhere.

and now to sleep, perchance to dream…

and pieces. not much done today. or didn't seem like it then.

friend came by this morning earlier than i wanted to think or move. got me out of the chair anyway. had a rough night. new bed and hurt back from jumping out of the truck tuesday. knew better and did it anyway pretty much without thinking till i was half way down. too late then. and way to old to be doing that kind of thing.

anyway he brought a bunch of stuff that he was throwing away. got a old pallet jack that I am going to try to modify to fit one of the dozers or the 3 point hitch on the tractor. that may be the better way. got some old electronics from a copier and a cabinet that I can use over the stove in the kitchen. already cut for a vent pipe. some other junk too. moved bertha to his truck and moved it into the back for now.

ate lunch and then cranked the MF135 and headed for the hill. The power line to be exact. found one of the pole base cut offs and after breaking a piece of ground wire and bending a hook on one end managed to poke it under the pole and hook the rope. Tied it to the pole and tied a loop and hung it over the trailer hitch on the scrape blade and pulled it out of the woods. then up to the top and back down the hill, across the creek, through the gap by the barn and around the bend by bills bus we went then up the hill and by the entry I unhooked it then backed into it with the blade and pushed it up and to the side.

back up the hill and did it again on the other side of the power line. went down by the beaver pond and snagged another one about the same length (10 to 11 feet) and diameter (16 to 20 inches) and back up the hill to repeat the trip. put this one on the north side of the entry and pushed it up against the pine and out of the way.

put the tractor away and took a walk and looked at the cedar thicket. got a bunch of cedar I need to cut and have available for porch posts and second floor support beams among other things. big problem is getting in there with a tractor or something to get them out. we walked the old logging track (can't call it a road as there are 2 foot diameter rocks in there) and it looks like a trip or two with the dozer will allow us access from the east.

Back for water and a rest. Then on to try the stuff to stop leaks in the John Deere. Got the water bucket and filled it. Added the stuff for the leak. Started the dozer and after a few minutes started adding the liquid. Got most of the bucket in the engine. Twas then I noted that some of the liquid was blowing back out the radiator. not from air from the fan but from air coming from inside the radiator. As I had already put this stuff in the cooling system I elected to continue. Took a couple of minutes for liquid to start forming on the exhaust stack and running down the side of the exhaust manifold. Exhaust got real white too. and then it quit. One cylinder seems filled with coolant. So, time to take it apart and see where the damage it…

Got the fuel tank unhooked, then had to remove the breather and air intake hoses to get the tank out. Got it out and took the muffler off and covered the rest for the nonce. Guess I will be welding on the Case final drive next. One of those days…

So I came in and started a pan of soup. Or something. Had some sliced up potatoes that needed cooking so I added water and soaked them for a few minutes and put them and the water in the stock pot. Found half an onion in the fridge that I cut up small and added. a stalk of celery likewise. Bit of salt and chunk of frozen stock from the last ham and on the ashley to simmer. Cut some ham up and took the pan of assorted bits and pieces (rice, ham bits, black eyed peas this time) from the fridge and added the cut ham to it, covered it and left it out on the counter to warm to room temp before adding. Added a can of chili beans to the mix cooking on the ashley, gave it a stir and took a sit down. stirred it every 10 to 15 minutes till the potatoes were about done and added the ham and leftovers mix and a can of chopped tomatoes. Stirred well and set on a ceramic tile (which i keep on the stove to regulate the temp a bit) to simmer. Came in and lay down on the couch and promptly went to sleep. Cat heard it fussing and after seeing me sawing zzzz's kept it stirred till I woke and pronounced it ready. Twas a good pot of soup. Made enough for at least 2 if not 3 meals. Total cost about $1.25 and much better than anything found at the store.

tuesday was a quite busy and productive day.

started with a trip to the folks house to get started moving the stuff from Edwina's house. They weren't home so after unloading the crates we headed to Marvin's to price gates, a sandblaster and a floor protector mat for a wood burning stove.

Found the mat with a quick question to a sales person. Went and looked at and quickly eliminated the ones they have as they state they aren't for use on flammable surfaces but just to protect the floor from scratches and dents.

Head to the yard to look at the gates. Get there and they only have one 16 foot gate. No 14's at all and plenty of 12's. The 16's were 70+ and the 12's were 54 so after a quick think and figure we decided on the 12's. This will give a base 24 foot opening and I can add a removable post in the middle or rig a sliding post to one gate to lock it in the middle and give something to tie the other one to.

So on to the air tools section and a DeVilbus (sp?) sandblaster for 19.99. Looks kinda like the other one I have had for many years so to the register and then the yard with Bertha and load the gates and back to the folks house.

We move the gates to one side and start loading the truck with books and the bedroom suite or as much of it as would fit. Got a load and brought it over and unloaded. Ate lunch and back for another load. Got the rest of the bedroom and most of the living room this trip. Filled it up and stacked the kitchen chairs on top of the couch and headed back over. Unloaded and started trying to arrange the mess.

Got it somewhat organized. Bedroom is almost finished. Cat has put most of the clothes up. Got to figure a closet somewhere.

Ok here it is! Got the 6 x 12 building which has almost the same siding as this trailer so if I remove the AC from the east end and place the building against the front wall it will be the same width as the trailer and with a door cut into the front trailer wall for entry the building can become a walkin closet and storage room. Needs insulating and paneling added inside but that will be a fairly quick job. Can change the roof style and do a tin shed roof from the front of the trailer to the far edge of the building. Cut the existing rafters flush with the side on the side against the building and remove the eves on that side. Add some uprights and a bit of siding and rafters and tin and permanate nonleak roof and looks done to me…

Gonna move the 14×66 over here and add it to the cluster. No sense in having it over there on its own. Get it over here where we can use it now. I am going to start looking at the trees that have go to go to move it in tomorrow (today wednesday). I am thinking about t-boning it into the west most door on the south side of the 12wide. that will give the most central connection. Still planing on building the 2 story section too but this is one of the things that needs to be done now for many reasons that I ain't gonna go into so addition will have to wait.

gonna try to attach the front steerable section of a transport dolly to the front of the trailer in place of the hitch. figure if i add a plate to the bottom edge of the dolly for the front of the trailer to rest on and then cut holes in the front for the toggle bolts to go through it may hold. or it may just be gas. gonna have to look at this. may be easier to use the john deere dozer. may not.

tis late and i am rambling. to bed, to sleep, perchance to dream of new and harder ways to move large semi-mobile objects…

Tis another cold sunday. Brrrrrrrrrrr cold today.

It was 21.5 at 1:35 am and had a wind chill of 8.5 f. Tis only 21.2 at 7:21 and a wind chill of 7.6. Wind is only about 15 mph now. Worst wind was around 2:30 at 38 mph.

All the plastic and temp walls and underpinning held up. Got down to mid 50's in here but with a few extra blankets we were fine. Cat is still upstairs under about a foot of cover.

Been out and surveyed the area but no real problems. Lit off the kerosene heater to go along with the 2 oil filled and the Ashley. Put more wood in the Ashley and got it going full tilt too. Almost up to 60 in here now. Starting to see the sun peek over the hill so should warm up fairly quickly from here on.

Up to almost 70 now at 9:30. Wind still whipping up out there quite a bit. Put a couple of more arm loads of wood in the stove and is heating nicely in there. Got so much wind and so many small holes in the temp plastic walls that it isn't staying very warm in the greenhouse right now though. I can either ignore it or try putting more stuff up in there. I'm tempted to get some of the blue board and put it on the section of north wall as well as under the trailers west end. Got a lot of air coming in that way from where it's blowing in under and around the old FRP that I've got blocking the north side. Could also put up more plastic over the FRP to try and block some of the worst of the wind and may try that in a bit. Gonna wait till it gets a bit warmer first though.

Ordered and got a copy of <a href="http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0596004761/qid=1106494950/sr=8-1/ref=sr_8_xs_ap_i1_xgl14/103-2454472-7002206?v=glance&s=books&n=507846">Perl Template Toolkit</a> finely. Have managed to read through the first page or two so far.

Having a bit of a time with my head lately. Just not working with learning things from print. Some days I can read and understand and others I can reread the same paragraph 10 times and still not remember a thing I have just read. Tis a tad irritating to say the least. On those days I also have problems getting things down on the computer so it would seem to be the brains IO interface that is causing the problem. I seem to be able to function physically fairly well but would rather not be in public when that is going on either as I am tending to get disorientated more frequently in unfamiliar surroundings also. Again may be a pointer to the IO system.

Keep looking at the Mac Mini. I am planning on setting up a server here at home and am considering one for that.

There is a site that I found the other day (and promptly forgot to either bookmark or note here in the blog so will have to try to find it again) that is a mac only data center and has a deal for folks that want to use a Mac Mini for a server. If you sign up before 3/15/2005 the cost per month is 22.99 for rack space. That is a hell of a deal! The data transfer is reasonable and only a small fee for over usage per gb. They will supply the machine or put yours in a rack. Their price per machine was about a hundred more than apples price if I recall correctly but it seems like they were offering more ram. guess I need to look and see if I can find the url again.

Their machines are about 50 more than from apple but you ain't paying to ship the machine to them. Of course you are gonna end up having to upload all your data that way, so if I go that route I'll order from Apple, install and ship to them.

Was reading posts on Homesteading today and someone posted this <a href="http://www.arts-crafts.com/archive/sears/">link</a> which has some interesting house plans for houses that were sold by Sears in the first half of the last century. Neat stuff!

got a bit more done today.

power cable mounted to the north side of the trailer above the windows. runs the length of the trailer with a connection almost at the west end. got it in pvc for the trip to and over the qhut.

added a 2x6x16 from the trailer to the top of the greenhouse as well as some other support boards. plastic over the north side and attached the roof tarp to the top board. will go back up and attach the conduit to the board too.

wire is run through the pines and am ready to attach to the final run into the box. got conduit running out of the box and turning into the shed on the east side of the barn, then the wire is through the bushes. need to figure a quick connect on this one if I can cause of the pines needing to come down.

was looking at them again today. they are in real bad shape. gonna come down by them selves before long.

put old fiberglas along the north side of the trailer to block the wind. used plastic on the east and south sides. may go back on the north side with plastic over the fiberglas tomorrow.

temp in here is 58.9 and that is with just the wood burner going and little fan pushing heat through the vents into here. not too bad as its 23.7 with a wind chill of 14.6 outside right now. or that is the reading at the <a href="http://myweb.cableone.net/mikecalloway/">local weather station</a>.

redid a bit on the south side of the greenhouse too. got more to do but this covered the worst of the holes. I hope to get the power finished tomorrow and will be able to use the oil filled heaters in here then. Just got a 12/2wg running the entire trailer now so don't want to add a major load.

Looked at the heat and it is strip heat. 10kw at 240 v is the rating. don't think I am gonna use that much. don't think the compressor has a reversing valve to make it a heat pump. no name on the thing so far. painted over all that stuff. guess i will try cleaning it off if there isn't anything in the control panel. haven't opened that yet.

thinking about moving the other mobile homes into the cluster here. heat and cooling are the main problems. figure that out and will be able to do what ever.

need to find where i can buy the insulated 3000 gallon tankers that are out of date or whatever. dig a hole and bury it with access to business end. fill with water and hook up pumps to collector, wood heat box, and zoned radiators. would have to insulate the pipes. box chase filled with fiberglas and the pipes?

better. back was out and pinched a nerve (or 10) to my stomach and other things. much better after getting it back somewhat in place. still some irritability but not anything like what it was.

gonna call it a night. long cold day and got two more to look forward too at the very least.

got some things done but not the ones i have needed to do like finish leveling the trailer. need to be doing that now but sitting here instead.

gut has been bothering me quite a bit lately. got something at the store (zantac i think) that helps some but only on my third one so not sure what the outcome will be there.

having to eat several times a day and light meals then to keep the gas and pain down. and yes i guess i need to see a doctor but the last time they just gave me something for the gas and a bland diet to try. hate bland diets.

got some more stuff moved in here. most of our time is spent in here now. got the entry somewhat water tight. with the weather coming tomorrow i am waiting till at least the weekend to start on the connection addition. figure it will take me about 4 days to get enough stuff down and back up so need to wait for good weather so I don't have to deal with the rain and cold.

just ordered a couple of books. been wanting to read <a href="http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0596004761/qid=1105594504/sr=8-1/ref=sr_8_xs_ap_i1_xgl14/102-1544533-3061743?v=glance&s=books&n=507846">Perl Template Toolkit by Darren Chamberlain</a> for a while but not at 40 bucks. found a copy that for 22+shipping so ordered it and while i was at it looked up and ordered a used copy of <a href="http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0312874995/qid=1105594340/sr=1-16/ref=sr_1_16/102-1544533-3061743?v=glance&s=books">Escape from Kathmandu by Kim Stanley Robinson</a> also. been wanting to read it for a while and the meters running so…

in which i do almost nothing.

Was up just after 6 and looked at the radar to find the rain was close. then a few sprinkles and then the rain for 15 minutes or so. let up and then stopped as the narrow band of showers passed.

went and cranked the lawnmower and used its trailer to get 2 loads of wood. split a bit and stacked it in the new wood storage shed. looks like it will hold a bit over a cord. did a bit of stapling of plastic and adding of wood to try to keep the open areas in this temporary connection to the trailer from leaking all the warmth out and letting rain in. got most of the worst of the openings covered. will try to get some walls up with doubled plastic on them this weekend or the first of next week.

johnny came by again, this time bearing gifts. some i can use as is, some will be more useful melted. left with a computer i needed not. hope it doesn't come back.

ate around 11 and around 1:30 took a nap. slept till about 3:30 and got up but still not feeling well. piddled around and did mostly nothing. poked the fire a time or two. moved the speakers and amp in here. still got to go to the trailer (old) and get the cd player and cassette deck to hook it all back up. also want to get the records and reel to reel back in the mix. then to digitize it all and get rid of most of it.

another not much day.

got the fan in the heat duct and a piece of foam around the blades to channel more air. Works great! keeps the entire trailer an even temp while running. turned it off last night and the temp dropped 5 to 7 degrees in the east end in about 5 hours. today it has run all day and tis nice and cosy in here now.

Course not that cold outside yet either. good cloud cover keeping it warm. had a couple of bouts of rain. just enough to dampen the steps.

old friend came by and took a fair amount of the day so didn't get things done i should have.

got the wood covered. put up a scaffold and put some pipe and aluminum plate from end to end. pieces 2 to 3 inch diameter trees 4 ft long across the pipe and plate then 2x4x8 sheets of old tin on that. 3 to 4 foot long 6 inch diameter firewood holding that down and a 8 foot long cedar pole on top of them topped off with a old blue tarp to give side and back protection. will probably take it down and move it to the back of the building and add another 2 sections to use on the building as well as a shed for the wood. but for now it is dry…

looked at a fair amount of stuff and thought about a bit but didn't get any of it done. guess i will try again tomorrow. not hurting as bad today as yesterday. had a couple of bouts with the back pain but nothing that the standard pain meds wouldn't get me through. that yesterday (or tuesday as this is now thursday) was a bit more than usual. don't like mixing them like that but did the job.

think i am going to give up the good fight and call it a night.

in the extreme for me. didn't get any of the things that I had wanted to do done.

got up this am around 8 not feeling very well at all and the day has gone downhill from there. still feel not so much bad as just underpowered. like i am a 12 volt motor running on 6 volts is the best way i know to describe it. de scribe, Boss! de scribe! he tells the story to paper.

hope this is done with tomorrow but kinda doubt it. the way the muscles are complaining it feels like i have overdone it to the extreme and am gonna have to keep it easy for a few days till it settles down.

looks like we can use the heat ducts in the ceiling to pump the air from the greenhouse through the trailer. gonna try for one or more small fans blowing into the final vent in the west end. If it works will most likely cut through the end above the door and duct the heat from the highest point into here. should be fairly easy to channel the air and be somewhat unobtrusive with it.

got the old computer desk from the front of the qhut and brought in here for cat to sort books and cds on. was several little things i was going to try, but every time I got up to do something, i decided to just sit a while longer instead… Only thing i did get done was update iSpeak and start training the voice files again. Found the correction portion of the program and am making some headway into teaching it what i am actually saying verses what it thinks i am saying. so guess it was somewhat of a useful day after all. Just not in the way(s) i wanted it to be…

Steve sent me a link to some 8 foot speaker cables that they want over 7k for.
