Cool little utility that lets . and _ filenames show among other things. Lets the user change some of the hidden settings in OS X.

Should for whatever reason you want emacs on your mac here it is. I have spent a bit of time with it and after figuring out what to NOT do finely got it to compile and run. Still at the bottom of the learning curve on using it though. Got a LONG way go get to where I can use if for even the simplest things and don't really know why I keep trying. But anyway it does work. not sure about the packages as the one WWW that I tried didn't work but not sure if I have the correct settings yet or if there are other problems.

Stupid. IP in this country world has gone crazy. And for the most (all?) part it is the lawyers that have caused it in a bit to make themselves totally indispensable. That and the greed of a few (like our most dishonorable prez and his family) are suppressing creativity and individuality to such an extent that it scares the hell out of me. Keeps reminding me more and more of Nazi Germany prior to WWII. Nuff said…

pieces and bits
puts them together
n see if they fits

feel kinda like warmed over refried shit today and have for the last few days. yesterday was no real exception other than I knew that I had to get wood in or go and buy some so I managed to get a full cord cut, hauled, split and stacked. did about half of it by me self, with cat doing most of the final stacking and bill helped with the cutting, loading and stacking on the last two loads. I can feel it today too. have been up since about 0630 cdt and am just now (1300) feeling like trying to type. the monster maul was a bit much on the hands and arms. plus the chain saw is a mite on heavy side. I like that for the most part but when doing overhead limbing cuts it is almost more than I can handle. Guess I need to get one of the many older saws out and cleaned up to use for just that kind of work.

I also want to make a saw that I can use on high cuts. the ones I have looked at that will do up to 24 feet are way to high priced for me to consider. A long ladder is much cheaper and more versatile/generally useful also.

Wondering about a small hydraulic motor and hoses but the weight of the hydraulic oil alone would exceed any advantage.

so how about an air motor? total loss exaust so no return necessary. one line which can be the cheap lightweight hard plastic curly hose so extension will pose no problem either. need small air motor with gear reduction and bar mount.

Course easiest way is connect an electric chain saw to a pole and use an extension cord. with the bar set at a 45% angle to the pole or looking at the pole as being on a clock face and orientated from 6 to 12 the bar would point at 1:30, the weight of the motor should exert sufficient pressure on the chain to make the cut. certainly if the weight of the pole is added and the chain is reasonably sharp.

all day

went to calcis thursday for cathy to set up her mothers new computer. I don't do that trailer so sat in the van. for 2 hours. till cat couldn't get the thing to make modem connection. I went in under protest sat down to the computer, tried to concentrate on the screen and ran out the back door as my heart almost tripled its beat and started fluttering a bit. not going back in there. we brought the computer home to set it up. will get to it tomorrow or sunday.

came back through pell city (how else?) and stopped at the american thrift store to check out the books. ended up buying 28 of assorted titles. got 4 john creasey's the toff series that I didn't have. 2 rex stout's nero wolfe, Murder by the Book and another copy of The Doorbell Rang. MBTB is a book club edition and TDR is a readers digest special printing (or some such. don't have it close at hand). Bunch of mysteries as well as some sci-fi.

left there and ate in coal city at the barbeque place there. was not as good as the first time. tea was ok but nothing special. barbeque was ground. weird stuff. cat said her burger was ok but again nothing to talk about.

coming through ragland i noticed how many more buildings were empty. the place is getting to be a ghost town. still want to spend some time there and learn some of the local history. need to pull out and dust off the story i start there.

heard of a place around northport above tuscaloosa called kentuck (?) i think. susposed to be an artist colony or something along those lines. guess i need to google it and see what and where. need to take a break for a day or two.

looks like an interesting place. not sure if i want to go that way though. or direction. would rather go south or east or south east.

This sounds nice! Makes me want to blow a couple of grand and get 2 ZonePlayers ($499 x 2 = $998) and 2 Sonos Controllers ($399 x 2 = $798). Then there are speakers to consider also. Out of my range right now but still cool as hell!
