Really is amazing! Of course, eventually they need to have the “fingers” cover the entire fretboard (which really WILL look strange!), and then that sucker will be able to do all KINDS of things! But, you’ll notice (especially on “The First Noel”) that if the timing of the strumming/phrasing isn’t just right, you get a very strong autoharp sound. It’s not bad, but it doesn’t sound much like a guitar, either. Maybe it’s just me. And it does illustrate just how wide a spectrum of sounds/style you can get from a guitar-but it also illustrates that the mechanics of playing the guitar are just that-mechanics. The “soul” of playing any instrument is vital, also. Be interesting to see if someone comes up with a commercial product you just put your guitar in for easy “sideman” duties–maybe a portable version that you could control with your laptop, for those campfire sing-a-longs?
“Hey, Timmy, could you reboot the guitar? I think it threw an untrapped exception in that D suspended 4th chord….” Or maybe Tungsten could come out with a Palm Picker…..
