Fireworks

Jacksonville Fireworks July 3rd 2005

And a plug for me… Took the pix over at Sean and Caroline Wellesley’s place in the pecan orchard of the old Edward’s Plantation North of the stadium. The fireworks are launched from their property and where I took the pix we were closer to the fireworks than the folks at the stadium parking area. Impact from the launches and star bursts was awesome!

trying to get iPhoto talking to Wordpress

Sunday, July 3rd, 2005

Just as an aside about the pix that are showing up on the page.

Been looking at website photo programs. Spent 3 days this week on it. Last night (this morning ) up past 2:30 and still no joy. I have tried about 10 or so programs now and come back to just using wordpress till I can get something else up and going.

The plugin I am using is photon. I would like a bit more flexability but it works! and after a bit of juggling with the templates I have the thumbnails linking to the main post and the large picture in the extended part of the main post so the main page isn’t gonna get too much slower than it already is due to the increased bandwidth of the full sized pix.

Gonna keep looking and testing. Am fairly sure it’s something I am doing. Or not doing.

I like this one. Good clarity with a nice varied blurry background. Good desk top picture material.

Yellow Jessamine

Looked it up after several years wondering. Flowers, leaves and roots are poisonous and may be lethal to livestock. May be why I only see it in a few places over here. Suspect it has come in via birds.

Yellow Flowering Vine In Pine

Not sure what kind of flower this is. Guess I should look it up and learn something. Always the first flowering vine to bloom here on the hill.

One of my pieces that I still haven’t made another base for. Or extended the base of this one.

GROKLAW

GROKLAW
I think LinuxInsider has been misnamed. Clearly they hate Linux enough that they scour the world looking for anti-Linux material. Consequently, I think we should come up with a new name for them. My offering is LinuxBasher. That is at least accurate. Or how about Linux”Insider”? If you can come up with something more elegant, go ahead.

I quit reading them a while back for just this kind of bs. I wonder if they are funded or owned by Microsoft or SCO or who?

Treehugger: Simple, smart & efficient : Ecofan Self Powered Woodstove Fan

Interesting concept. The movie is strictly an ad but shows a side view of the pelter junction sandwiched in between the top and bottom aluminum thermal source and sink. Neat!

The day is done…

Sunday, July 3rd, 2005

The day is done, and so am I,
Night fell long ago,
Morning light will come too soon,
My body surely knows.

And yet I sit,
And surf,
And browse,
Fingers on the keyboard.

But sleep creeps in,
Despite caffene,
Eyes close of their own accord,
Goodnight all…

Fuel ethanol cannot alleviate US dependence on petroleum

Any way you run the numbers, there just ain’t enough energy, the way we are trying to do it now, for the number of folks that are being born. Or land. Or food.

Mail Avenger

Sunday, July 3rd, 2005

Mail Avenger
Mail Avenger is a highly-configurable, MTA-independent SMTP server
daemon. It lets users run messages through filters like ClamAV and SpamAssassin during SMTP
transactions, so the server can reject mail before assuming
responsibility for its delivery. Other unique features include TCP SYN fingerprint and
network route recording, verification of sender addresses through SMTP
callbacks, SPF
(sender policy framework) as a general policy language, qmail-style
control over both SMTP-level behavior and local delivery of extension
addresses, mail-bomb protection, integration with kernel firewalls,
and more.

Gonna have to do something when I bring the email accounts onboard the lan. Looks promising.
