Well yes it is. And a lot of other things. Not saying that a WHOLE lot is dependent on water but the blatant statement could be made about a lot of other things too.
New Scientist Breaking News – ‘Pig disease’ may be spreading between humans
Vaccines to combat a deadly pig-borne disease were flown to south-western China on Sunday, where the spread of the rare illness has already killed 36 people and infected 198. The unusually high numbers of people infected by the swine disease has led scientists to speculate that it may be being spread from human-to-human – or that another disease entirely is to blame.

I was wondering how long it would take as virulent as it seems to be at least from what scanty reports that I have seen. The initial 19 (?) had no contact with each other and now there are this many more.

Techdirt:Where The Hell Am I On This Newspaper Website?

Oh yea! Big pet peeve of mine.
I have spent quite a bit of time trying to figure out what country a paper is in much less trying it figure out what state or city it was! And it pisses me off every time!
The simple addition of “city, state and country” in the copyright statement would be a BIG improvement…

DRM on Mactel Machines?

Read the article. Get pissed off. Or even more pissed off at Apple and DRM, if that’s possible.
I have posted about being a bit upset with Apple about this before. I have not updated to Tiger because of the growing inclusion of DRM into every aspect of the os that they possibly could.
Come on people! It’s hard enough now to open a document if the extension is not what the OS thinks that program should be allowed to handle.
What will it be like under “trusted computing”?
Have a bit change in a document due to “cosmic rays” or bit rot on the cd or dvd or even hard drive that it’s stored on, and depending on what bit it is, you AIN”T gonna get to open it at all, cause “something’s” not right. STUPID! The caps ain’t big enough!
Good bye Apple. Been nice working on your platform lo these many years. But there is always a breaking point and you just crossed mine. Neither you nor any of your platforms developers will get another penny of my vote!
I’ll be reloading my iBook(s) with linux soon. And you can bet my next computer(s) won’t have that cute little apple on the lid.
It’ll be a penguin…

Warning – Semi Off-topic
That “evil” weed just keeps on being useful, doesn’t it?
Now if the government (of the people, by the people, and for the people? pardon me while I puke…) would wake up and quit spending billions of dollars a year “fighting” the “war on drugs” and building more prisons to house their victims.
Hard drug use is a self-correcting problem, unlike the “war” which is a self-perpetuating problem, and one that has put millions of otherwise law abiding people in jail and has driven many, if not most, hardcore drug users to a life of crime to support their habits.
My personal belief is that the “war on drugs” is also directly responsible for the spread of aids (and the millions of resulting deaths) among those that use needles, simply by restricting the availability to the point that dirty one-shots get used many times by many folks.

This looks quite interesting especially for small businesses that are forking out major bucks leasing lines and or equipment from the phone company.
Or schools that have ethernet everywhere already. And all the teachers computers can be extensions.

This is just great…NOT!
If they would spend this kind of money to upgrade this countries railroad system and turn it into an actual mass transit system with bi-directional tracks running from major city center to city center, it would cut the need for so many long haul petrol guzzling trucks and cars.
But instead they spend it on more and better roads to move more cars to burn more nonexistent fossil fuel and destroy more farmland and communities in the process.
This is SO stupid! This isn’t progress, it’s genocide! The demand for oil is going to kill us all while king Albert E the stupid, lines his and his friends and families pockets…

OPML Editor support: Mac Version Out
—
A Mac version of the OMPL editor that Dave Winer n friends have been working on. I am trying it out and it looks interesting. I would want to run the server on my on domain instead of using his but so far the ease of updating is there. Markup is there. Links and images are there. So…
This looks good so far Dave! Thanks!
Now all I have to do is burn out a few more brain cells trying to figure this out… 😉
Got pissed off with Hosteria the other day when the site went down yet again, located and bought a new hosting package and started the move. I’m well pleased so far. The latency is about half of what it was at the old site and so far the only outages have been of short duration. The cost is so reasonable that I am looking at other site possibilities too.
Still waiting for calcis.us to propagate but all the others are moved. Got some small bugs to work out yet so if a link is broken or a page missing or something doesn’t take you where it is supposed to, in other words if something just don’t work right, PLEASE let me know! Comments here is fine or email me at depatty at gmail dot com
I guess I am going to have to break down and put some kind of ads on the sites too. Don’t want to but these sites are costing me out of pocket every month, with this move, and since I have no money coming in otherwise right now, I’ve got to do something. For now I think I will advertise our books on here and see how that goes.
So when the ads come, ya’ll click on them links, you hear.
Thanks for reading…
