PBS | I, Cringely . June 15, 2006 – Taking One for the Team

“Microsoft has spent five years and $5 billion NOT shipping Windows Vista. This reflects a company deliberately built in the image of its founder, Bill Gates — a single-tasking, technically obsolete executive with no checks or balances whatsoever who fills the back seat of his car with fast food wrappers. So Bill has to go, because as an icon, he’s great, but as a manager, he sucks.”

Give em hell, Cringley!

EarToner

Interesting concept.

Still can’t get it to work on pclos. Not sure why. Installed the current java SDK just to make sure that I had it all but no joy yet. Guess I will move on to other things and try again next release… 🙁

Linux.com | Synergy: One keyboard (and mouse) to rule them all

Since I use mac and linux this looks interesting. I especially like the ability to copy clipboards between computers/systems. Think I tried this several years ago but wasn’t able to get it working and gave up. Sounds like time to try again.

Worm wriggles through Yahoo mail flaw – Security – News – ZDNet Asia

Guess this means that till they get this fixed you shouldn’t use yahoo mail if you use: Windows 2000, Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows Me, Windows NT, Windows Server 2003, or Windows XP.

Or just quit using windo$ and move on to linux. I prefer and usePCLinuxOS FWIW. 😉

Official Google Blog: Happy Birthday, Google Earth

Google Earth. New, improved, and now for Linux too!

To install on PCLinuxOS and I suspect most linux systems –
Open terminal window.
cd to directory the .bin is located in.
Switch to root user – sudo
Change permissions on .bin – chmod 777 GoogleEarthLinux.bin
Execute .bin – ./GoogleEarthLinux.bin
Follow the onscreen directions.
Waste many hours and no fuel while going nowhere from the comfort of your own computer!

LiveCD Software Solutions

Haven’t tried it yet as my Freesco router is working fine but looks interesting. Especially the minimum hardware requirement specs –

One dedicated computer with the following minimum specifications: 486 Processor, 16 MBytes of RAM, 2X CDRom Reader, Floppy Drive, 1 or 2 ethernet cards. NO hard disk! Optionally a WIFI card.

Cool use for OLD equipment!
