bits and bobs

Been quite a day. Started out about 6 with me falling down the stairs and breaking the little toe on my right foot. All red and purple and swollen… Hurts like hell too. But with a bit of stubbornness I have managed to go for at least part of the day.

Got the water hooked up for the washing machine. Also the drain run for the washer. then found and hooked up a vent for the dryer. Cat ran a load through each and they seem to be working fine.

Now to wash the piles of clothes and see where the walls need to be moved to…

Also put a bolt in Aaron's alternator. Hope it holds. Was a real pain in the arm. Large bruised place on my arm. Every time I work on a car I remember why I quit doing it. And then go and do it again. and again.

Looking back at the second paragraph, first sentence… Seems so simple. Took 3 hours or so. Today. And a few more last week. Started today with finding a piece of 3/4 inch iron pipe. 3 feet long. Had one end flattened. Just right. Took the 2 faucets with ells and compression adaptors attached to the barn. Found a piece of angle iron from an old bed rail that had been used as a fence post and cut 2 one inch strips off across the L. Flattened them while leaving a bit of a hump where the corner of the L was and then drilled holes in each end for a bolt to go through. Got 2 3.5 inch bolts and nuts and attached them through the holes. Put pipe and ells inside and was too loose. Took it all back apart and drilled holes closer. Put it all together again and it fit just right. Took it off and drove the pipe into the ground behind the washer by the platform for the toilet and put the clamp and faucets back on. Tightened it good. Got the tubing cutter and cut one pipe running overhead to the shower. Put a T in and then did it again to the other pipe. Ran tubing from those T's to the connectors on the faucets. Closed both faucets and turned the water on. One leaked. Took it apart and replace the inner tube I had put in there in place of a washer many years ago with a real faucet washer. Turned the water on again and fixed a couple of minor leaks. Hooked the pipes from the washer to the faucets and plugged the power in and turned the washer on. Worked fine.

And even here I left out some of the things that went on during the install… Whatever… tis a bit more involved than just hooking the water up… 😉
