and the trailer is moved
almost into place. the trip was not without points of interest but was made without major bloodshed.
started with me looking at the trailer again in the daylight and deciding that not welding anything else onto the upright was the right thing to do. and as it turned out that was the correct decision.
broke both side supports off with the dozer tracks. one early on and one later. backing both times.
the hitch wheels got turned sideways one time and ended up with one wheel inside the trailer hitch. stopped when the wire was hitting the trailer. looked at the hitch and decided to try to pull the wheel out by going forward. so skidded it along a bit further. going down hill so was pushing me along a bit.
tore the wire down. got the cable cut and pulled off the trailer and carried on.
got to the point and had to move one old power pole and a ceder pole about 20 feet long. used the tractor for that and then got back on the dozer and headed into the home stretch.
got it up the hill and onto the more level ground before it sunk into the mud. got it a few feet further by digging out from in front of the tires and pulling till the tracks spun. so got a chain and got the dozer out of the muck and moved another 3 or 4 feet.
got some cable and a pulley and tied the cable to a tree with a chain and some tires to protect the tree then ran it through the pulley which i attached to the hitch of the trailer trailer and then to the back of the dozer.
started pulling and the cable came loose from the clamps on one end so I moved it out of the way and put a ball in the blade mount (which I spent 3 hours welding and beating back into shape this morning) and tried to pick up the front of the trailer to get the hitch wheels out of the mud. was going to try plywood on the ground under it to skid on but broke some of the welds i made this morning.
guess i needed more metal over the welds. the front which i added patches over held. so moved the ball to the other side and tried from there and managed to straighten the broken place back out. so will reweld it and add more patches this time. gonna add a piece all the way across the back. got some 4 inch channel that should do the trick and won't let it cant enough to break again like this. started to use it this morning but decided to wait till later when i had more time.
was trying to outrun the rain today. anyway tis in the area just waiting for small adjustments. in foot deep mud. with steady rain falling. supposed to have 2 more days of it in varying amounts but all totaled is around 2 to 3 inches. so will have to figure another way to move it.
guess sliding it into position isn't totally out of the question. am thinking about trying to get some plywood under the 3 wheels on on each side and then skid it sideways pulling on the plywood.
drill holes along the 4 foot sides and thread the cable (3/8ths steel winch cable) into them and pull both pieces at once. more plywood on the ground that the wheel sheets can ride on top of with mud lubricating the whole thing. will know more tomorrow…
long day and I am beat. a nap sounds good about now.
