Eastern Coyotes Are Becoming Coywolves
Eastern Coyotes Are Becoming Coywolves
—
I think this must be what we have been seeing around here in east central Alabama. They are much bigger than any coyote I’ve seen but the color and build isn’t like any dog I’ve run across.
Sounds like what I have seen. I have seen some pretty hefty “coyotes”. I thought they were “coydogs” myself, but “coywolves” makes more sense–wolves and coyotes live a more similar lifestyle, and the wolves would be more likely to be looking for an out-of-species mate. (More pressure to find a mate — fewer partners available.) Heck, this could have started before the white man came along, we may just be hurrying things along a little bit, or a lot. The size of a wolf, and the intelligence/adaptability of a coyote — somehow, I don’t get the warm/fuzzies from that……
Me either. I get the feeling that this is the reason the ranchers around here have been having so much trouble with the coyotes killing calves. One just south west of me loses several a year to some kind of coyotes. Another farm (the old Clark dairy) just north east used to. The new owner put up all new fencing and and bulldozed most of the underbrush and hiding places. Also added horses but suspect the fence and clearing made the difference.
By the way, when you do the double dashes together, it makes a –strike– through. One will not if there is space between the word and the dash. One of the plugins in WordPress is doing it…
