New Scientist Breaking News – Hiroshima bomb may have carried hidden agenda

And lets rewrite history yet again. But as they say (whoever they are) history belongs to the victors…
Hindsight is always SO clear, until some academic asswipe comes along to put his/her spin on it.
I ain’t Truman, so I can’t speak for him. Obviously, these folks feel they can. Of course, they have access to MUCH more information than ANYONE did at that time, on either side. Since I am at least as qualified to give an opinion as they are (after all, I am breathing, and pass gas regularly-are there other qualifications of which I am not aware?), here goes:
The only thing that dropping the A-bombs on Hiroshima/Nagasaki impressed on Stalin was the great need to get his own A-bombs. Even more than the Trinity tests (which he knew about before Truman did!) had already done.
EVERYBODY in Japan knew (head-knowledge) that they had lost the war, but what the military leaders desired, above all else, so as to expiate their shame at having failed the Emperor, was to go down to bloody death and take as many Americans/British/Japanese with them as possible, to validate their Bushido credentials. Luckily, the Emperor was able to assert his authority and prevent this. Whether this would have happened without the “shock and awe” of the A-bombs, with the high command arguing that the Japanese people could keep ANY invaders off their shores we will thankfully never know.
If Truman (and everyone else, with the possible exception of Hitler, who was enough like him to know better) had any faults regarding dealing with Stalin, it was in the fact that he expected him to act like a human being in a given situation, not like the absolute twisted psycopath that he was. Stalin was a creature to give meglamaniacs a bad name. And yet, other leaders kept expecting this CREATURE to have human qualities, even after he killed more Russians/Soviets than Hitler did. Amazing. Of course, I am using hindsight here, too, so…..
Yes, it’s a terrible thing that we (almost typed HAD to use the A-bomb) used the A-bombs. It’s also a terrible thing that Imperial Japan invaded Korea, Manchuria, the entire Pacific basin, attacked Pearl Harbor, occupied the Phillipines, and tortured/killed more people in the “Rape of Nanking” than the A-bombs did, in approximately the same amount of time. (Yes, the bombs went off in a relative instant, not everyone died instantly.) If you want to talk about re-writing history, go read a Japanese history text. These folks had the “Re-writing History” medals permantly retired to them after the Soviet Union dissolved.
This bullshit sits right up there with “The London bombings are all because of the Iraq war!” shit I hear. (But don’t hear as much as I thought I would, probably because the average Londoner probably bitchslaps any reporter they hear saying that, on camera if at all possible.) WE (the Western world) did NOT start this terroist bullshit. I’m not saying there are not issues to be worked out on ALL sides, but semtex vests are not the tool of choice for reasonable discussions. Of course, reasonable discussion is the last thing these folks want, they want complete capitulation. Well, f**k that. When you throw reason out the door, someone is going to throw a grenade back in. And it works both ways…..
