Boing Boing: Katrina: Baghdad on the Bayou

Sounds extremely reasonable to me. The poor lived in the lowest areas and are the ones it is hardest to get to leave an area. This way they are all gone with only a few thousand dead.

Win, win for Shrub and co…

I’m not a big conspiricy theory guy, so I’m not really buying this one. Although, if you wanted to get rid of the poor folk in New Orleans, breaching the levees during a Category 4 hurricane surely wouldn’t be that hard to do. (Given what umpteen studies have said about the levees for many many years, breaching them at ANY time would be no feat at all) But I believe that this administration’s proven track record of not being able to find its own ass with a road map, GPS locator, and high-dollar contractor assistance (oh yes! ALWAYS high-dollar contractor assistance!) more than accounts for the balls-up that happened in NOLA. As for Mike Brown’s performance, well, I think he did quite well, don’t you? I haven’t heard of a SINGLE Arabian horse casualty due to Katrina. Considering his job record, I think he has performed extremely well……

Want to or not, they are gone elsewhere for others to deal with now. I’m not saying I totally buy this either but this administration has shown NOTHING but lip service to helping the poor and disadvantaged. The ONLY group that they have shown loyalty to is big biz.

Good point, Brown certainly kept the Arabian horses from coming to harm down there…

Protected all those aid supplies from the poor and needy too…

Now Brownie’s gone. Hopefully the guy who replaced him is better (and yeah, worse is always possible) and even though it is FAR too late, things will get done.
Bush is a Charlie Foxtrot. I didn’t see anything to make me think that Kerry would be any/much better. He was great at supporting the Big Dig, which will be providing jobs for contractors for generations, unless it just floods completely, in which case its replacement will provide jobs for contractors for generations……at a much lower death rate than the Iraqi war, I will admit. Probably would not have had quite the effect on gas prices, either.
But gas prices NEEDED to go up, so that SOMEONE will put some REAL money/effort into alternatives. It’s long past due….
