Day of the DRM articles it looks like. This one is arguing that DRM done right will lead to more buying. Not sure where they are going as it is continued later. Worth a read.

bit-tech.net | A conversation with Cory Doctorow

A good read, with quite a few well thought out points. I especially liked the following:

“You know, screw them, if it’s a choice between putting everyone in Hollywood out of work - not that this would do that, but if that was in fact the outcome, which the industry says it would be - and if it’s a choice between that and eliminating all freedom of information, due process and privacy rights in electronic communication, then ‘Goodbye Hollywood’, it’s a no-brainer.”

The problem with it is that Hollywood (and it’s masses of lawyers) isn’t going to go quitely and the insane drm and restrictions that they are trying to force into law are screwing us all.

Solution? I haven’t a clue.

To be able to sleep with myself, I license my stuff (writing and photos and such) under Creative Commons, don’t buy new music cd’s due to the RIAA nor new dvd’s due to the MPAA, both because of their stand on drm and the out of control suing of their customers. I also quit buying or using Apple products for their stand on DRM. Linux and OSS software is all I use now.

Totally out of control lawyer, abusing the legal system.

Yea, I know, what else is it there for… :-(

UH develops charcoal-fired fuel cell - The Honolulu Advertiser
The carbon cell functions something like a car battery. It has an anode and cathode positive- and negative-charged terminals in a liquid solution, and if you put an electrical load — like a light bulb — between them, electrical current flows from one to the other. But that’s where the similarity ends.

In Antal’s cell, the electrolyte is alkaline potassium hydroxide, not sulphuric acid. It is kept under pressure to prevent it from boiling away at 400 degrees. The negative terminal, or cathode, which acts as a catalyst, is made of nickel and silver or platinum.

The positive terminal, or anode, is a porous ceramic column filled with charcoal powder. A piston keeps it pressurized, and serves at the attachment point for the electrical connection.

In operation, hydroxide ions in the electrolyte attack the carbon, creating carbon dioxide and water. The process releases energy.

The cell is fed air to provide the process with new oxygen, and it vents carbon dioxide.

The charcoal does not burn in the sense of a campfire burning. The reaction occurs entirely within the liquid of the fuel cell.

what voltage per cell? What kind of current per gram of carbon consumed? details damnit! This sounds really promiseing!

The hardware keylogger page. Try a hardware keyboard logger device!

So now we need to check the keyboard connection before sitting down to a public computer. Lovely. I see two or three sides here but suspect that it will mostly be used for evil. Doesn’t mean I wouldn’t like one, just in case… ;-)

The Blog | Bob Cesca: And You Call Yourself A Homeland Security Advisor? | The Huffington Post
Fran Townsend, Homeland Security Advisor to President Bush, was on Fox News Sunday this morning and proudly stated something about as preposterous as anything to come out of the White House this week.

She reasoned that we weren’t alarmed about the British company managing our major ports after the London bombings, so why should be alarmed about the Dubai Ports deal.

Doublespeak anyone? Do these idiots in the White House really think that the public is this stupid? Or is it that they are so far into never never land that they just don’t think before opening their mouths? Or something entirely different? Alien mind control implants maybe? Or have they been turned into pod people?

Link above goes to a good article on a bad subject.
