The saying is that a picture is worth a thousand words so —

Got this when I went to the WeatherUnderground site today the first time using DesktopBSD. Since I had just updated to the latest and greatest I ain’t clicking… 😉
Just trying out DesktopBSD. It runs KDE even on older/slower machines fairly well.
Initially installed it on a PII 350 mhz with 120 mb ram and it ran at an acceptable speed.
So next step was to install it on the test machine which has an AMD Duron 800 mhz processor and 375 mb ram. Put it on a old WD 20 gb hd. Runs faster than my main machine with twice the mem. Seems to be faster than Vector Linux too. No bench marks, just my gut feeling. Some of the KDE stuff isn’t ready for prime time under Vector. Everything seems to be ready to go with DesktopBSD though! Think I will play with it a while and see how it does. Haven’t tried any of the BSD varients since a stint trying FreeBSD 3 or 4 years ago and must say that I am impressed with the ease and completeness of this distro.
