Del and Jelly Bean visit Weaver

By , December 4, 2007 2:36 pm

Del stopped by on his way to Tampa with his teardrop camper, to spend the night, and to let us see his one of a kind creation, the Jelly Bean.

The following pictures were taken Tuesday morning just before he left out heading east for Atlanta before turning south toward Tampa.

From the rear
Yellow it is even through the road grime. Quite an interesting build.

Door from inside
Reinforcement was required to keep the fit. Door latch is quite nice.

Tongue extension
Tongue extension worked well. Original tongue ended just under the front of the body. A frame is angle bolted on for stability. Works quite well.

7 days on the road
7 days on the road makes for a bit of a mess.

The hinge from hell! Does the job and with one person in the camper is not in the way with the door closed.

Cool! Sorry I missed that when I came by. I have a jacket to put in my truck now, so I can do more looking around in the future…
The body seems to be made of plywood. Is this so? If so, then a whole lot of bending went on with the construction of that thing. Reminds me of the Albatros fighters in WWI–semi-monoque construction. Strong as hell, and light, also. Of course, the Jelly Bean won’t have to stand up to .30 caliber machine gun fire. Hopefully not, anyway..
Does Del have a blog/website? Would like to see more about this.

Yes it’s made of plywood. 1/8 birch for the skin. And yes there was a whole lot of bending going on. And LOTS of clamps. And fiberglassing. You can see his build from beginning to now at T&TTT Jelly Belly build. Warning, it’s a LONG thread. 😉

    Later,
    dave
