If we get a generator going may be able to get the cash register and card machines back online as the phone is still working.

We opened today and will try to be open as usual other than the no power bit which means no debit, credit or ebt sales. Cash or checks only.

Keep getting different stories about how long it will take to get power back to Piedmont. Shortest time is 3 days longest is 10. 🙁

We’re still alive and with no damage other than a night without power and a few limbs broken off. Store in Piedmont is fine.

Seems to be quite a demand for clock repair. Another few hundred dollars invested in tools and supplies and I might just have a new career.

Now only 7 or 8 behind. Got to get on it as have another cuckoo clock coming in to work on in the next few days.

I think it’s done other than some minor adjustments once I get it back in it’s case with the pendulum, face, and hands on.

Laid the stand down and lubed all the pivots with the 10 weight nano lube and when I set it back upright it started running on it’s own.

Tightened the 4 holddown nuts, set it up on the test stand and it started running without the pendulum. 😉

Came in and after cleaning the pivots and wheels one last time to get all traces of polish gone, peggged the pivots and put it together.

Almost sunburned and aching all over. Did manage to get a few hundred pounds of copper pipe torn out though. Got more to do tomorrow.

LONG day today at the tearing sh!t apart to sell for scrap cause the discount groceries aren’t moving store in Piedmont.

And will be a working day tomorrow so till then… 😉

Had 6 that needed to be done, and after getting things set up, didn’t take but about 15 minutes a bushing. Am about done in though.

Went to get some needed groceries and then came back and started on cutting the holes out to put the bushings in the plates.

At about 4 pm. 🙁 Got all the pivots on the wheels of the Ingraham sanded, burnished, and polished by about 6, and took a break.

Finally got them to less than 1/1000 and called it close enough. Put the pivot filing support in the tailstock jacobs chuck and got to work.

So ended up spending another hour + cleaning up the #3 morse taper to #2 morse taper adaptor and the extra #2 morse taper jacobs chuck.

Finally got it within about 5/10,000 and called it done. Then couldn’t get the 3/8 inch jacobs chuck to center.

Then had to do some shimming to get it back into alignment. After that spent another 2 hours trying to get the 3 jaw chuck in alignment.

Spent a fair amount of the day working on the lathe. Took the tailstock apart, cleaned it and used a file to correct some earlier repairs.

Just finished rebushing the Ingraham clock. Got it together for a test fitup now but need to take it back down and do a final clean up.

Then can put it back together, oil with nano oil and call it fixed. I hope. 🙂

After checking a few RSS feeds and checking email again… 😉

Came in, got things open and ready for the hoards, tore down and repaired a VCR, and now looks like I’ll start putting up stock.

10 am and not a person seems to be stirring in Piedmont. Or at least not out shopping. Even the traffic is almost non-existent.

After of course sorting, cleaning, and pricing the stock. Such fun…

Highlight of the day so far has been changing out the fly ribbons. 🙁 Other than that have been adding more shelving, and filling it up.

Also, while I had the drill out, moved the screw for the cuckoo clock up a few inches so the weights won’t hit the floor.

Got the drill and some screws and reattached the announcer part this morning. Don’t think it will come off again. 🙂

Double stick tape is just no good any more. The magnet bit fell off a couple of months ago. Put it back on with contact cement.

Came in our door and heard the front door chime. Came up to see what the deal was and the switch bit was lying on the floor.

Now in Piedmont avoiding putting more stuff on the shelves. Already had to put the announcer (?) switch back on the front door.

Made it through the night, though with LOTS less sleep than I needed. Quite a light and noise show in the sky in our area.

Guess I am getting closer though. And by going though and resorting/rearranging it looks to the customers like we have a bunch of new stuff.

Which is entailing redoing a LOT of the stuff that’s on the shelves. Spent the last two days redoing 2 sides of half an isle of stuff.

Been a long several days. Suspect the next few will be as long if not longer. Got about 10 pallets of stuff to put out/go through at work.

Thighs are skinned, in marinade, and in fridge for the duration. Gonna go back out and do some more thinking on a project I got going.

Think I’ll see how thawed they are and put them in a marinade overnight and cook them tomorrow evening. Hope I’m less tired then. 🙁

Was planning on bbqing a bunch of chicken thighs tonight but not sure I am up to it now that all the other stuff is done.

Another few feet of brush cleared from beside the road down by the barn. Most of the limbs cut off so they can’t hit the Q-hut. Me tired…

Still waiting for another order to come in to have the proper tools to rebush several other movements.

Finally got the cuckoo clock finished. Ended up having to reglue both whistle bellows and make one bellows linkage wire. But tis noisy now.

Been a long week. Made it through and am taking two days in a row off. From Piedmont anyway. Will most likely work both days just not there.

Guess I need to see about supper, so till later…

Went back out 78 to the new bypass and came in through Ft. McClellan. Been a while but I still remembered the way through.

Will try to get some pix some time soon. After closing up took Hwy 9 to 78 to BAM. Got the book, and some stuff Cat wanted and headed home.

me last week that he had a clock for me. Tis an old mantle Gilbert 1807. Beat up pretty good and needs a LOT of TLC but should be fixable.

Then about 4:40 had a few minutes and walked across the street to talk to Randal, who had told

But decided to check at Books-A-Million in Oxford and they had one copy. Had them hold it so we could try to go down after work and get it.

Then read a bit on Google from The Clock Repairers Handbook and decided it was worth the purchase. Checked Amazon and started to order it.

Been a very clockish day. Finally got the shipment of clock tools and parts from Timesavers around 1:30.
