Who’s on first?!
The Classic!
Abbott: Well Costello, I’m going to New York with you. The Yankee’s manager gave me a job as coach for as long as you’re on the team.
Costello: Look Abbott, if you’re the coach, you must know all the players.
Abbott: I certainly do.
Costello: Well you know I’ve never met the guys. So you’ll have to tell me their names, and then I’ll know who’s playing on the team.
Abbott: Oh, I’ll tell you their names, but you know it seems to me they give these ball players now-a-days very peculiar names.
Costello: You mean funny names?
Abbott: Strange names, pet names…like Dizzy Dean…
Costello: His brother Daffy
Abbott: Daffy Dean…
Costello: And their French cousin.
Abbott: French?
Costello: Goofe’
Abbott: Goofe’ Dean. Well, let’s see, we have on the bags, Who’s on first, What’s on second, I Don’t Know is on third…

Broken laptop
hard drive died on the newest iBook g4 this morning. Am going to just order a larger one and do a restore from the last backup I did which is about 2 weeks old. So lost a bit of mail and maybe a bookmark or two but that’s about it. Most of the stuff I want to keep up with I put on here so I can search from anywhere there is a computer. Glad I got this old machine up and running again day before yesterday or I would be really pissed. As it is I’ll have to come off of a couple of hundred bucks or so depending on how big a drive I get.
Looks like a real pain in the ass to replace it too.

More later…
Update – may have been overheated. shut it off till it cooled to the touch and tried it again and no more clicking and farting. So… i think the drive is failing and is the cause of the heat but I am not certain. guess I order another drive and replace it whether or not it gives more trouble just to be on the safe side.
From what they have to say at
http://forums.xlr8yourmac.com/drivedb/search.drivedb.lasso
(and filling in the blanks) the machine I have shows definate signs of failure, which is the bad news. the good news is that the drive can be replaced with any notebook drive that will fit, so I am not tired to an apple supplied part.
other bad news is that the drive I spent several hours deciding on, is out of stock from the manufactruers web site. So back to the drawing board or get another 60 gb drive, I guess. But if I’m gonna spend a couple of hours replacing this thing I would rather put the largest drive in that will fit as I keep maxing the 60 gb that’s in there now out.

Now if I can just come up with a way to justify the $500+ that the Davis Pro station and computer hookup will cost…

BTU’s
Got both woodburners and the kerosene heater AND the electric oil filled going and it’s 73.4 up here. 24.8 outside so I can’t complain.
Lotta wood going up in smoke tonight but tis all deadwood anyway. Burning a mix of cedar and willow with a bit of sweetgum thrown in for giggles and longer burning times. Cedar goes hot and fast which tends to dry the others out and catch them up nicely.
Tis late and I am overdue on Z’s so will close for the night.

Guess Dr. Seuss was a bit before his time… No wait, that was green eggs and ham, not green ham and eggs. Anyway, weird!
Rainy Friday
Or is right now. Got the truck (yellow Toyota) cranked and after a trip through the creek and over the bridge was able to drive right to the cedars. A bit of back and fill here and there but after I get the time to finish the privit twill have a nice road into that area. And more important a beginning to the perimeter road on that side of the creek.
Got a load of branches and broken pieces and didn’t even crank the chain saw. Or didn’t crank it at that time. Cause I did cut them up but that was after getting back to the dwelling.
Also got a few rock that we had piled up earlier in the week. Got a lot more up there to get too.
And back I came. To crank the saw and cut a couple of wheelbarrow loads of firewood, unload the rock, and cover the rest of the wood still in the back of the truck.
Then breakfast and the rain. So after stoking the fire I retired to my aerie to watch the weather.
Got lots that I could be doing inside but after spending a good 7 hours of the day riding the MF-135 yesterday I am taking a bit of a break. Can hardly move as it is.
Bit of an interlude there as we had some real close lightnening and then I went out to clear the ditches. Got them clear enough I think/hope. Now for me to dry out a bit. Was (and is) pouring out there. Radar is showing that we are right in the middle of the worst of it right now. Another half hour to 45 minutes and should start letting up (10:16 cst now).
Friday again
Got to get the bod in motion. Rain coming in within the hour and dry wood on the ground to cut and gather.
Cleared a new road along the west side of the bamboo yesterday. Main reason was two large dead cedar trees that I am heading up to relieve of some of their limbs in a bit. And a really large oak that the beavers undercut a few years ago. Still some good burnable wood there I think.
Rain is coming so must run for the nonce. Back in a bit.
Other directions
Going in another direction than I had planned today.
Got the blade on the tractor and am clearing and leveling in several places. Main one being around the bamboo thicket. Been trying to get to it for several years and the ground is just right now to rip the privit out by the roots so am taking a day and doing the tractor thingie…
More later.
Get ready for things to break
Going to upgrade the WordPress install to 2.0 so the place will probably be down for a bit.
DASCO 399
My brother found this tool the other day and is wondering what it is/was used for.
He says in the email:
It is solid steel. Chisel on the right end. Hammer head and single pick on the left. Overall it is about 9″ long. From pick to hammer head it is about 2 1/4″. The lettering on the handle says “DASCO 399”.
Any help/info would be apprecaited.
