Way too many of them too. I just don’t think I can actually be this old. But according to my date of birth, today I turned 53.
Cat is in Texas for a family reunion so have had the day to myself. Went out and did a library and thrift store crawl for books. Got 8 paperbacks and one hard back at the Jacksonville Public Library for $5.00, then headed south down highway 21 looking for food.
Got to the Seven Star Chinese Buffet before feeling compelled to turn in and fill up.
Had Coconut Buttered Shrimp for the first time and it was good! Seems to be an easy to overdo food so limited myself to two.
Another first time for me was the Cucumber Shrimp and again it was excellent.
The Mongolian Beef was good. Meat could have been tenderer but flavor was top of the line.
The Pepper Chicken was good but a bit on the over seasoned side. A tad less salt and a larger grind of pepper would be my preference.
The General Tso’s Chicken was overdone just a bit. From the flavor I suspect it was cooked in too hot a pan because the inside was fine, it was just the coating that was overdone.
The noodles, or Vegetable Lo Mein were so-so. I’ve had MUCH better.
The Iced Shrimp were quite good as was the cocktail sauce.
There was also some other kind of chicken which was rather bad and I seem to have blanked the name out.
Overall it was a pleasant meal, especially for a buffet. As I had water to drink the bill came to $5.42 which is extremely reasonable.
Highly recommended!
Then to the Oxford Public Library which had nothing I was interested in and only 8 or 10 books total for sale.
So back to Hway 21 and turning north took a left at Greenbriar and pulled into the Good Hope Thrift Store. Here I hit the jackpot! Got 6 Nero Wolfe’s along with 20 other paperbacks and 3 hardbacks for the princely sum of $8.00! I had gotten a box and asked the guy in charge what todays price for a box of books was and that’s what he figured it out to. I got one book that is worth much more. Red Mars by Kim Stanley Robinson in a signed first edition, bound in leather, with acid free paper and gilt edging! There is some minor discoloration on the cover that may or may not come off but overall the book is in fine condition.
Tried going to Puttin’ On The Ritz but though the sign said open and the lights were on, the door, she was locked…
So headed to the folks house to see them for a bit. Got a shirt (and then 2 castoff’s that dad didn’t like) and pair of pants, a finger light (will have to post a pix when Cat gets back with the camera), and a Farm Show Magazine 30th Anniversary Encyclopedia of Made It Myself Ideas. And some fresh picked green beans.
Cat had left a couple of DVD’s with them for me, so I got those while there too. Thanks Cat!
Then to the evil empire for staples and then home for the day.
Just finished supper and thinking about heading to the cooler part of the compound to read or watch a movie. Overall a very good birthday!
For those of you about to get into dust. Or an airsoft battle. 😉
A news story about airsoft and some of the dangers associated with it. For those interested, the outdoor video footage with Tom Hand was taken at here the farm. Otherwise known as Dave’s Combat Ranch. 😉
This is the location of the game for those who are out of town or even those who are local. If you have more questions email me at depatty@fake.gmail.com without the “fake”.
HTH (hope this helps)

Have no idea what happened but it seems like a server restore must have been done. Screwed up the site for several hours today. Reminds me why I didn’t want to do this in a database from the start. 🙁
Just received this from a friend and had to pass it along!

First post from the iBook using Ubuntu Linux and Airport Extreme Wifi! Running on live cd now but the sucker is as fast as this machine has ever been. Now I want to see how it does when installed on the hard drive.
Battery is about to go so will close for now.
Been working on moving shelving and such from the old PCH building in Jville the last few days. Moving it to the 14 wide. Got 12 4ft face sections in the main room now. That translates to 2 sets of 2 wall units and 2 sets of 2 double sided gondolas. Whole lot of storage/sales area. Also got one set of 2 wall units and one set fo 2 double sided gondolas in the the northmost room. Still got room for several (4 I hope) wall units in there.
Each hall will get 3 or 4 wall units and the back (south most) room will get a set of 2 doublesided gondolas to go with the shelves already in there.
Got the ladder moved over there today and went up to look at the roof problem(s). Most of it is in the walls. Has a lot of damage right at the roof line. I am thinking of screwing metal (of whatever type) over the gaps after filling them with foam. Got a roof vent in the bathroom that is crushed that I may just remove as no bathroom is needed (there is no water line over there).
Having a do nothing day. Over did it yesterday. Took down 48 feet of shelving at PCH and then worked till nearly 9 getting some back up at the trailer. Playing with computers today.
More later. Maybe… 😉

Good night, Barney!
Just hooked up an old scanner that has been kicking around since we got my mother another one. Wouldn’t work on the mac iBook but seems to work fine under pclinuxos. True plug and play, which this scanner (HP ScanJet 3300c) wasn’t under windows or not on the machines that we have tried it on. Always had to dl drivers from the site.

Just trying a new browser, Flock, available at http://flock.com/developer/
that has built in blogging capabilities. Looks interesting. If you are trying to get it for Linux change the ending of the url in their link to the page from pgp to php. I’m sure they will fix this soon… 😉

President Bush was scheduled to worship at a small Methodist Church outside Washington, D.C. as part of Karl Rove’s campaign to reverse Bush’s rapidly deteriorating approval ratings. A week before the visit, Rove called on the Methodist Bishop who was scheduled to preach on the chosen Sunday. “As you know, Bishop,” began Rove, “we’ve been getting a lot of bad publicity among Methodists because of the president’s position on stem cell research and the like. We’d gladly arrange for Jack Abramoff’s friends to make a contribution of $100,000 to the church if during your sermon you would say that President Bush is a saint.”
The Bishop thought about it for a few minutes, and finally said, “This parish is in rather desperate need of funds … I’ll agree to do it.”
The following Sunday, Bush pompously showed up for the photo op, looking especially smug even while attempting to appear pious.
After making a few announcements, the Bishop began his homily: “George W. Bush is a petty, vindictive, sanctimonious hypocrite and a nitwit.
He is a liar, a cheat, and a low-intelligence weasel with the world’s largest chip on his shoulder.
He used every dirty election trick in the book and still lost, but his toadies in the Supreme Court appointed him.
He lied about his military record in which he used special privilege to avoid combat, and then had the gall to dress up and pose on an aircraft carrier before a banner stating “Mission Accomplished.”
He invaded a sovereign country for oil and war profiteering, turning Iraq into a training ground for terrorists who would destroy our country.
He continues to confuse the American people by insisting on a nonexistent connection between the horrors of 9/11 and the reason he started his war in Iraq.
He routinely appoints incompetent and unqualified cronies to high-level federal government positions and as a result, hundreds and hundreds of Americans died tragically in New Orleans.
He lets corporate polluters despoil God’s creation and doom our planet. He uses fear-mongering to justify warrantless spying on American citizens, in clear violation of our Constitution.
He is so psychotic and megalomaniacal that he believes that he was chosen by God.
He is the worst example of a Methodist I have ever personally known.
But compared to Dick Cheney and Karl Rove and the rest of the evil fascist bastards in this administration, George W. Bush is a saint.
This is the total sum of what I have been able to see at that Stupid Flash only site…

Really neat, eh?
Treehugger: There’s Still Light After Death: Castor Canadensis’s Recycled Tube Light
Like the idea. Hate the site at http://www.castordesign.ca/ because it uses FLASH and it won’t read my browsers under Linux so this one gets a HUGE thumbs down from me. Fix your site so all can see it!
And I have updated my flash player to the newest and greatest and it works elsewhere so I suspect that there is a problem at the designers site. 🙁
