Got the storm door moved from the center wall of the qhut to the greenhouse entrance in the end wall of the 12 wide. Footing dug where the door is going and blocks set in place for sizing. Cat has gone to get weekend food stuffs and a hose pipe. Will start pouring cement when she gets back.

Built a set of steps out of industrial shelving standards. Still got to cut the 2×6 or 8’s to make the treads but this way I can adjust the step height as needed. Make nice semi portable steps. Got to get a couple of longer uprights for the bottom and then I can add hand rails out of pipe, bamboo or wood as the mood strikes. I think I have figured out a way to use the erector set or bolt together type to build a spiral stair case to the second floor. Will try to remember to charge the cam and take pix as I build that.

Still got to get the nails out of the fiberglas window on the end of the qhut. The second floor support is going to over lap it about a half an inch. Will be covered up inside and out anyway so no biggie. Soon as I get those out I’ll set the 2x6x16 and then the corner 4×4 and drive the angle bracket into the ground to hold it level and square. Then will take the 4×4 out and pour the cement and lay the blocks, and put it back in. Then will be able to set the door and start on laying cans and bottles to make the qhut side wall section.

About got the root cellar hole filled and packed. If not for the packing I would have some energy left but can’t leave voids so am wearing me out. Got to get it almost filled to put a ladder on it to pull the nails out of the fiberglas.

Just got my head full of coding and find it hard to move from writing words to working with code so…

Got the paypal if else part more nearly done. Shows up when and where it should and not otherwise. Now got to figure out the rest of the return from paypal to verify sale and flip the For Sale switch from 1 to 0 or checked to unchecked. I’m sure it’s not a biggie but my head ain’t thinking this way today. May have to shelve the project till I get back into the grove…

Slashdot | Former Health Secretary Pushes for VeriChip Implants
An anonymous reader writes “Tommy Thompson, the former Bush Health Secretary after implanting a chip into himself, is going to submit a proposal within the next 50 days to promote it for everyone in the USA. VeriChip spokesperson John Procter said ‘virtually everyone could benefit from having a chip inserted.’ Enjoy your assimilation in the land of the free, citizen.”

The Huffington Post | The Blog | is-your-lawn-safe
Is Your Lawn Safe?
The American shruburbs. A safe place to raise your kids, right? Maybe, but here’s another “dark side of the American dream” story, with an easy solution:

More than 70 million pounds of pesticides are sprayed onto America’s 30 million acres of lawns each year by companies like ChemLawn, who’ve made the perfect lawn an icon more imporant than the white picket fence.

Been saying this for years… But most folks don’t think. I mean that’s what the adds tell us to do right? –
Got weeds? Spray.
Got bugs? Spray.

Don’t think about (man behind the curtain) the environmental effects somewhere off down the road. Or in your offspring.

As long as the critters/weeds are gone NOW that’s all all you should care about.

Bullshit! Weeds and most bugs are good for something somewhere. Natural controls are available in most cases and less toxic means exist where natural isn’t available. Besides we need all the green we can get to counteract deforestation erosion and global warming.

Act locally, think globally…

Techdirt:Where The Hell Am I On This Newspaper Website?

Oh yea! Big pet peeve of mine.

I have spent quite a bit of time trying to figure out what country a paper is in much less trying it figure out what state or city it was! And it pisses me off every time!

The simple addition of “city, state and country” in the copyright statement would be a BIG improvement…

This is just great…NOT!
If they would spend this kind of money to upgrade this countries railroad system and turn it into an actual mass transit system with bi-directional tracks running from major city center to city center, it would cut the need for so many long haul petrol guzzling trucks and cars.

But instead they spend it on more and better roads to move more cars to burn more nonexistent fossil fuel and destroy more farmland and communities in the process.

This is SO stupid! This isn’t progress, it’s genocide! The demand for oil is going to kill us all while king Albert E the stupid, lines his and his friends and families pockets…

Move is done

By , July 30, 2005 9:57 am

Got pissed off with Hosteria the other day when the site went down yet again, located and bought a new hosting package and started the move. I’m well pleased so far. The latency is about half of what it was at the old site and so far the only outages have been of short duration. The cost is so reasonable that I am looking at other site possibilities too.

Still waiting for calcis.us to propagate but all the others are moved. Got some small bugs to work out yet so if a link is broken or a page missing or something doesn’t take you where it is supposed to, in other words if something just don’t work right, PLEASE let me know! Comments here is fine or email me at depatty at gmail dot com

I guess I am going to have to break down and put some kind of ads on the sites too. Don’t want to but these sites are costing me out of pocket every month, with this move, and since I have no money coming in otherwise right now, I’ve got to do something. For now I think I will advertise our books on here and see how that goes.

So when the ads come, ya’ll click on them links, you hear.

Thanks for reading…

Almost done with site update

By , July 24, 2005 6:01 pm

Or that’s what I keep telling myself.

Keep finding things I want or need to do. Got most of it done though. Only gonna use 2 themes for now though as I don’t think the theme switcher plays right with some of the ones I’ve tried. Gonna look at it more later.

Added a bit over at Murder They Wrote my new Mystery blog.

Been adding some more cover scans over at Nero Wolfe too.

Slow but getting there.

New Site Layout

By , July 24, 2005 11:51 am

I’ve been looking for something that would streamline the links and the dropdowns at the right do that just fine. Now to modify the layout with the addons the way I had the old one and add a theme switcher so you can make your choice instead of putting up with what I want to look at. 😉

Anyway, feedback is appreciated either in comments or email…

New Header Graphic

Got tired of looking at the refrigerator ice so threw this one together out of some pix I took while making some hammers and mallets in the barn last month. Old machine tools work great with wood and allow for fair precision to boot. 😉 I’ll try to put a post up about them and the shovels that I have been making too.

Mysterious disease kills nine in China: report

Not good. No contact between the folks. Scary…

sorry for the database problems

By , July 22, 2005 11:36 am

cancel that last post… I have heard from the host and they have found and corrected (I hope) the problem. We’ll see. I bought the new master domain name bluespringsbazaar.net earlier after the latest outage but had been thinking about it buying that one anyway just to keep anyone else from getting it. I’ll point it to the bluespringsbazaar.com site for now.

Boing Boing: Black Panthers hot sauce

Boing Boing: Black Panthers hot sauce
the hot sauce is dubbed “Burn Baby Burn.”

—-

I almost didn’t click on this link. But a hot sauce put out by the Black Panthers named “Burn Baby Burn.” was just too much to pass up. So here it is. For whatever reason.

Though now that I think about it I do have a slight memory connection.

What follows needs to be taken with a large dose of salts. The mind that is doing this remembering isn’t real sharp any more about things yesterday much less this far back. I could be misremembering all the way across the board. You have been warned.

There used to be a log cabin across the street from where I now live. It was owned by an old black man (? I think). Don’t know what happened to him. I think he was already long dead by the time the place was torched. The old cement steps are still in the bank by the ditch.

The house was burned, I heard, by the local KKK who were trying to capture two Black Panther outside agitators that were supposedly in the area (Anniston, AL) inciting the black community to violence and arson.

There had been some rioting and several buildings burned in Anniston one Sunday evening. We saw the glow in the sky over Anniston when we came out of church that night. I remember wanting to go down there but my father intervened (wisely looking back on it now) so I didn’t get to see any of the rioting. A friend did go and said it was all crazy but I don’t know that he really went or got close to anything if he did.

It was later that night or Monday when the rumor went around that this guy (don’t think I ever knew a name) was hiding out in this old cabin across from our farm. I doubt that he was but there was no evidence in the ashes that anyone died there when the fire marshal checked it out a day or so later.

Anyway I heard and then saw the fire trucks head this way. We lived about 2 miles away then, actually where my folks still live, but to get here you had to turn right in front of our house (then). So I saw the trucks head this way and wanted to follow but I suspect my dad knew more about what was going on than I did and wouldn’t let me go. Came this way the next day I think and the place was just smoking ruins.

The next report was that the Black Panthers had left the state and things started to settle back down.

I guess this would have been 67 or 68 but I can’t be sure. We were always about 2 to 3 years behind the west coast on everything else.

Toxic Algae Attacks Bathers On The Riviera…

Bathing was banned along 15 kilometres of the Italian Riviera yesterday when more than a hundred holidaymakers were taken to hospital after being infected by toxic tropical algae.

But we got nothing to worry about cause the economy will fall into line soon with this war thing going on. No global warming gonna mess with our business growth. Right, Albert E Prez, whatever you say…
