New Zealand’s government is pointing out that if documents are written in DRM format, particularly in proprietary DRM formats, there are privacy and accessibility issues, particularly in the future.

Interesting point(s) made in this article and in the comments. I have run into this before with apple (IIe and IIc and then again with mac. Fortunately by the time I got to using windows I had gotten into the habit of using plain text for the archival properties if nothing else. no way to preserve the formatting but tis a small price to pay for being able to read the document 10 years later. Also other than price the main reason I moved to gimp as soon as I could on all platforms instead of using photoshop and paint and the other propritary graphics programs was the open format(s) the data could be stored in.

Good read. And one to bookmark to show your boss when the open source vs microsloth argument comes up again.

The Power of God
Last night I had a crazy dream. In it, President Bush publicly bitchslapped Phillip Cooney and other administration officials who had been lying about the dangers of global warming. The President cited the same dozen “doctored, distorted or suppressed” reports to which Robert Kennedy Jr. has referred in the Huffington Post and elsewhere. In my dream, Mr. Bush explained that he had been talking to God and then, weeping like Jimmy Swaggart caught with a whore, he said that God had reminded him that lying was a sin, and that He would not longer tolerate it in his administration.

Harrison-Off Designs

If you are into woodworking this is a must visit!

They try to be all suave but the title of “Untitled Document” at the top of all the pages just screws the attempt up. But Joel does some nice work. I just wish the website “designer” allowed more and better pix, design, and construction info of the pieces. The gallery page is well worth a visit for some examples of one off (I think. again just not enough info on this site!) pieces that the artist has done.

Radial sawmilling works with the nature of the tree producing timber sections that have consistent growth ring orientation and less residual stress.

Interesting concept. Goes along with what I have been reading about in working with green wood and riving it out of log rounds.

This is interesting. Not sure if it’s the future or not but it’s a step in the right direction toward no moving part control systems.
