US aims Star Trek ray guns at nuclear sites – vnunet.com

I gotta wonder what type of material it will take to shield against this. Shouldn’t take much.

The first thing that came to mind was the French sound weapon from the mid 60’s. Would work fine till some dampening material was added to the subjects and then no effects.

Not sure what it would take to shield against 95Ghz.

From the site:
“ADT emits a 95GHz non-ionizing electromagnetic beam of energy that penetrates approximately 1/64 of an inch into human skin tissue, where nerve receptors are concentrated.”

Seems to me that the old tin foil hat trick should work fine. Or a body suit impregnated with graphite or metal power. Be interesting to see how long it takes to defeat this “Star Trek Weapon”.

How about an UMBRELLA? I mean, reflectivity is a function of wavelength, correct? And the wavelength for 95 GHz ain’t going to be much–they say it’s in the millimeter band, so we’re talking microwaves here, correct? So, I’m thinking that if you wear one of those funky aluminum suits from the 60’s (EVERYTHING comes back in style if you just wait long enough) and carry an umbrella lined with the appropriate material (like about $.30 worth of Reynolds Wrap) then until they get to the point that they can MELT you (some time down the road, I am thinking) you don’t have a problem.

Okay, where is my hefty government consulting contract for coming up with this? (Hey, I don’t have to PROVE it works, just come UP with it. That’s how the government contract thing WORKS…….or doesn’t…..) The REALLY big money is in the proof-of-concept phase, where we sub-out the clothes and umbrella, the test equipment, and hire some real life test dummies, er, I mean SUBJECTS, and get “quantifiable results”. Definition–what color smoke do you WANT to come out of my ass……
