Another Wednesday down
As per yesterdays post we headed to Gadsden this am to check out the Wednesday crowd at Poor Boys Trade Day. Got there around 10:30 to find no one at all there. Guess either it was too cold or they changed days and aren’t opening on Wednesday any more. Went on over to the Eagle Rock Thrift Store in Rainbow City to see if they had put any more books of interest out. They had. 🙄 Cat got a small handheld basket when we went in but shortly went and got a buggy. We picked up 77 paperbacks and 14 hardbacks. 😯
Left there and drove back to 278, rode around and explored a bit of Hokes Bluff then went to Piedmont where we ate a lunch of sandwiches we brought with us. After eating rode around downtown to find that there ain’t a whole lot there anymore. Lot of stuff wasn’t open either. Kinda weird. From there we came back home. Been sitting are reading since with a short break for supper.
Gonna try for another trip to Poor Boys tomorrow to see how the crowd is. There are several places between here and there that we check out from time to time that are only open on Thurs, Fri, and/or Sat, so even if Poor Boys is a washout again maybe we will get lucky and find some of the other places open. For now my head is hurting again so am gonna go up and hit the sack. Till tomorrow.

“Twas VERY cold yesterday. Maybe the folks up north would argue that, but I wager not too many would have been out there frolicking in their shirtsleeves either. The wind had teeth–long, sharp, serrated teeth. Brrrrr!
I think downtown Piedmont has done the downtown Anniston thing, but maybe even more so. In Anniston there are a lot of reasons–public perception, lack of parking, city apathy (and downright antipathy to businesses/patrons), lack of parking, traffic woes, and did I mention lack of parking? Sometimes not so much a lack, though that is VERY common, but also the fact that where you have to park puts you in a precarious situation. Whether Anniston wants to admit it or not, Noble Street is a major throughway for a bunch of people who avoid Quintard as much as possible. If they get the bypasses going sometime before the second coming/nuclear holocaust (choose one) that will either be a great help, or the final nail in the coffin of downtown. I really can’t decide which. Considering the rate at which the bypass is being built, it’s not like I spend massive amounts of time worrying about it now. 😎
Yesterday was a “stay inside and do inside stuff as much as possible” day for me. Worked on some more tablet PCs to get them ready. You know, doing repetitive uninstalls/installs/updates/configurations on a group of computers would be a wonderful means of torture, but I think it’s banned even at Aru Gharab. It’s not that bad, but it sure is mentally constipating. Going to try and do more of that today, and every day until I get them all done. Nine down, nineteen to go, three of which are close. Got to set up wireless on five of them today and they will be finis. “And there was much rejoicing!” Setting up all this nice, new hardware this year has been a wonderful change, though maybe I should look into a cloning tool or two and see if I can clone the tablets…sounds like a pharmacuetical company that advertises via spam. 😎
