now it’s trackback spam…

By , September 19, 2005 10:39 am

Awoke this am to another pile of spam in the blog. This time it’s trackback links. Same set of links which end up back at a poker site. Guess this asshat is getting a few pence for each and every link “it” gets clicked through or some such. I know I am tired of dealing with it. Got the trackbacks going to moderation if anything fits so will just have to keep adding keywords till they give up I guess. Or cut off trackbacks and pingbacks which I hate to do.

Update — looks like it’s blocking the correct comments so maybe when they see nothing for their trouble they’ll quit with this stupidity…

Update2 — starting to blackhole most of them by their trackback url’s. Still coming so they ain’t too bright. I just can’t see what these idiots are getting out of this that could possibly be worth it…

comment spam

By , September 16, 2005 12:39 pm

another batch of it. Locked it down so you have to be registered and logged in to post. Sorry about that but for the sins of the few the many must suffer…

Guess I need to look around and see if there is a plugin to block an ip address as these seem to be coming from either 3 or 4 addresses. I think it is a googlebomber or a group of several that are doing this. The comments make no sense otherwise, just random noise. The only one I really resent is the batch from S C O. Those blood sucking bastards need to be eliminated.

Update –

the ip address is changing on every posting. Guess this is some kind of round robin system using compromised computers so that the ip address blocking won’t work. The slow rate they are coming in is almost like there are real people out there doing it but I guess it could be a botnet that is passing the info along.

Comment Spammers hit

By , September 16, 2005 9:01 am

Asshats hit this am. Just deleted the crop, I think. If I got anyones real comment, please resubmit. I turned moderation on for now, so if you’re a new poster (or an existing poster but forget your password/username) comments will not show up till I approve them.

Having just bought a house, I’ve been busy constructing a Linux-based media server. The experience has left me both amazed and frustrated by the state of desktop Linux software.

Any article that starts like that has gotta be good… 😉

Free gin-and-tonics top Freddie’s Ashes rewards. 14/09/2005. ABC News Online
As dawn broke over London, Flintoff was sipping his umpteenth gin-and-tonic, puffing on a giant cigar and telling anyone who would listen just how much the Ashes triumph meant to him.

“What is most exciting about it is that I’ll be awarded the freedom of Preston [his home town in Lancashire, northern England],” he said.

“That means I can drive a flock of sheep through the town centre, drink for free in no less than 64 pubs and get a lift home with the police when I become inebriated.

“What more could you want?”

What more needs to be said… 😉

exhausted

been a long few days and I am paying for it today. did yesterday too but about this time of day started getting a bit of energy and used it to add the last second floor joists into place and then put several 2x6x16s up as flooring. guess I am paying for that and the digging and moving of the other 2x6x16s from the other side to here by the trailer. counted 65 left before starting yesterday and still have 15 + left to move over here. should be enough to finish the building anyway.

having to use them for flooring as all the plywood is heading south or the contractors have bought it up and won’t sell it.

more when I have the energy.

The picture is cute. Actual info is non-existant.

Where was the picture taken?

And by whom?

Who built the one horsepower car?

Is there a link to another story about it that I am missing?

I expect better from Treehugger…

Scientists discover how fish oil protects the brain WASHINGTON (Health Day News) — Louisiana State University scientists say they have discovered how the fatty acids found in fish oil help protect the human brain from the type of cognitive decline associated with Alzheimer’s disease. Their study shows that docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), an omega-3 fatty acid found in coldwater fish such as mackerel, sardines and salmon, reduces levels of a protein known to cause damaging plaques in the brains of Alzheimer’s patients. What’s more, the researchers discovered that a derivative of DHA, which they dubbed “neuroprotectin D1” (NPD1), is made in the human brain. That natural substance plays a key role, too, in protecting the brain from cell death, the study showed.

Interesting. And certainly low tech.

I want a fridge that has drawers instead of shelves and a door. Also going to try the low cost conversion of a chest freezer to a fridge.

Boing Boing: Katrina: Astrodome blocks FCC-approved emergency radio (update)
After waiting over 5 days since the radio volunteers received official the official go-ahead from the FCC to build their station, a senior staffer for the Harris County administration of the Astrodome abruptly stamped ‘Denied’ on a piece of paper.

Imagine that! They don’t want the folks they have incarcerated inside to have ANY news. Keep them in the dark and they will be more passive. Let them see just how BAD the gov has screwed up on this one and things just might get out of hand…

My take on this is – Fire that sucker up and run it illegal…
