DeLi Linux

Lightweight Linux distro for old machines.  Site says that they have a 486 with 16 meg of ram running all apps smoothly.  That is COOL!

Downloading it now and will try it on my ex-gateway machine which I have forgotten the specs for… 😉

I tried to download here at work, and the page comes up blank-absolutely nada. It may be the firewall/screening software here, it does some strange things.

I would like to try this, because
    A. I have access to all kinds of old hardware and
    B. this looks like a good learning Linux, something to get my teeth into. I guess I will just have to download it at home.

Use the bandwidth to get DSL instead. DeLi linux is not quite ready for prime time. Was a trip back to the olden days of installing RedHat the hard way. Not quite that bad but close. After getting it installed and somewhat setup I was able to get the window manager to let me into X but was unable to (unwilling to waste the time) get the display so I could read the text without reading glasses and being 6 inches from the screen.

So I got out the DSL disk and from the CD it booted faster and with much more stuff than DeLi seemed to have in the short time I messed with it.

DSL can be gotten from http://www.damnsmalllinux.org/. Also check out the DSL-N which is Damn Small Linux – Not. This is a more robust/fully loaded version. Now at RC4 but the RC3 I tried was fairly stable. No major burps or farts so far anyway. YMMV
