Online but working on a site
Been working on a OSCommerce website for the last few days when not in the middle of the Airsoft War. Starting to see the light and hope to be through with the basic setup tomorrow.
For those interested, it’s an artists site to sell his work. URL is http://southernlifestyleart.com/shop/index.php. The site belongs to Frank Andrus.
If you have a chance take a look and give me some feedback. Still poking and prodding the code and uploading better copies of the artwork. Getting closer, just hope my hands will hold up.
Been working between the iBook and the pclosBox with the graphics. Doing the basic prep work in Graphic Converter on the iBook then transfering it to Gimp on the other machine and adding the watermark and reducing the jpgs from 100% to 85%. Doing it that way on the linux box to keep from having to strip mac data from the files before uploading them to the site.
Will try to get back to posting regular later in the week. Gots to get back to the pixel mines…
Nice site, nice artwork! Site matches the artwork well-simple, direct, not Flashy (note the capitalization).
Grammar-Nazi mode ON-Franks to show possessive should be Frank’s. Grammar-Nazi mode OFF.
Side note-I have noticed several websites/blogs (is there really a difference between a website and a blog-I mean, a blog IS a website, correct?) where apostrophes show up as other things, most often at signs. But sometimes other things. I have supposed this is some weird “I don’t have the exact font specified on this page, so I’m just throwing any special symbol I have into the breech here” type of response by the browser, but it is one of those things that makes me go “WTF?” But, then again, so MUCH of life does…..
Thanks for the Grammer-Nazi feedback. This site is done in php and as such all ‘ marks have to have a \ before them to not count as part of the php code. When I was first writing the intro I had problems and just removed the ‘s and failed to put them back in. But they is back now thanks to you!
Thanks for the kind words too. Tis completely different tonight or a lot different anyway so if you get time take another look and let me know if it’s better worse or just a total waste of time.
That is usually due to a feature (?) called smart quotes that some systems use. Macs are terriable about leaving the things on and causing all kinds of problems for someone later. One of the reasons I don’t use the iBook under osX to develope sites. Linux is much easier (and cheaper) to use and not have a lot to clean up. Kinda like what I was talking about in the graphics. Do them on a mac and you have a resourse fork to remove or have a really big file that isn’t needed for anything. Different strokes for different os’s…
Still looks good, and my tired old Grammar Nazi eyes couldn’t find any faults this time around. (Would insert a g between greater/lesser than marks, but the site won’t let me, I know…) The only thing that comes to mind is, there is a good bit of repetition in the three sections that show the artwork. Have you considered one section with the artwork, and listing next to each piece the ways it is available? For example:
“On Patrol”
Original artwork-$250.00
Pen and ink note cards-$5.00
Pen and ink prints-$25.00
…and so forth for each one, some of which will not have all the options, of course. It seems less confusing to me (of course, I am easily confused) and might make the site less “busy”. (Not that it is really “busy” at all, I just can’t come up with the right adjective right now..) Of course, if you are being paid by the web page, never mind. (Insert above mentioned g etc. here….)
It looks that way now as I haven’t got but one set of pix which are of the prints. Once we get the note cards and originals scanned or pix there of this will be easier, I think. Therefore I code…
Still fighting shipping problems that are being a pain but think I may have found a way around the restrictions. Just gonna get into the php again… 🙁
The 😉 is made up of standard smilies like ; and – and ) just fyi… 😉
