Another day on the couch
Back is still giving me fits. Just up long enough to eat and type this, then gonna go and lie back down. Hoping for a better day tomorrow, and less nasty weather for tonight and tomorrow. Till then.

Just a quick post to say that I am still among the living. Had to get out and do a bit today but still not doing too good and am taking it easy. Am going to make another early night though it will probably get interrupted by storms if this popcorn stuff keeps popping up. Till the morrow.
And I am really paying for it in my back. Going to bed and hoping for something to shift. Till I can stand to be upright again.
Spent most of the day just moving books. From here to there and from one self to another. Did a little more to stabilize the flue. Love the erector set angle. All it takes is bolts. 😀 And that’s about it for the day. Will try to be more articulate tomorrow. Till then.
Spend quite a bit of the day at the yard sale trailer, clearing things out, moving stuff, fixing stuff, and putting the stovepipe back on the woodburner and building a support framework around it. Cat came over and has boxed quite a few of the romance books as well as cleared the stuff out of the library room so we can get to the books again. We are going to remove the benches from the back of the van and are planning on putting them in the library back to back for seating/storage. Getting the stuff other than books and certain pieces ready to move to Flamingo Trade Day. Figure 2 days a week there and 2 or 3 open here with the books and better stuff should keep us going. Just got to get things ready to go. Woodburner works fine with the flue reinstalled. Need to find a bunch of old carpet to use on the ramp to the front entry. Got some at the barn. Just got to see what is there that is usable. If we use all the shelves in the main room and halls looks like 6500 books. Adding the old bathroom and back hall should take it to between 8000 and 9000. Add in the existing library with 2500 or so and 10000 is doable and still room for lots of other stuff in the two end rooms. Gonna hit the sack and start chipping at it again tomorrow. Till then…
Went out this am to get the bills paid for another month. Did so with a stop at the Salvation Army thrift store where many books were examined and far too many purchased. Quite a few first editions in good condition there today. After a couple of additional stops to hand over money for insurance and another month of electricity we turned south and were shortly in Munford. Saw a small antique store that was open and stopped. Picked up a couple of pieces of cast iron at rather low prices and as we were leaving asked about a flat earth/rock tamper that I think she had been using as a door prop. She said it was for sale and at the price it too came with us. We then proceeded to Talladega and managed to get completely lost for quite some time. Saw a lot of the wrong side of town that I had no idea existed. Finally extracted ourselves, located the highway and returned by a roundabout way. The remainder of the day has been spent mostly asleep as by the time we got back I was not feeling well at all. Still not doing too good but better I think. Getting this done early as I am going to lay back down and read for a bit and most likely doze back off for the evening. Till the morrow…
Been out and about most of the day. Wandered around at Flamingo and Bill’s Trade Days. Got a few books and some odds and ends that Cat picked up. I found an old glass decanter that looked lonely so gave the guy a buck for it. Back home and lunch then to the folks to put in a battery backup for mom and while I was sitting in front of the computer anyway got to update some stuff and run the spyware/adware detection and removal programs. Then to Tractor Supply and Walmart looking for small folding tables. Not willing to pay Wallyworld’s prices so came home. Ate supper and then writing this crap… Not sure what the morrow will bring. Gonna have to sleep on it. Till then.
Had a pretty good group show up today snow and all. I think they fielded 30 for the first game. They have found another field fairly close by (about 8 to 10 miles from here) and are planning on having the next game in about 6 weeks from what I have heard.
Got a dutch oven full of country style ribs cooking. Should be ready to eat in another 15 to 20 minutes. Hope they are as good as they smell. Another night of driving the cats crazy cooking outside.
And they were as good as they smelled. 😎 And I ate too much but just couldn’t help myself.
The day is done and so am I. Fire going in the Ashley woodburner and everyone gone from the camp. Thinking about going to the flea markets on 431 in the morning. Just not up to the trip to Mountain Top so gonna keep it a bit more local. Gonna read for a bit then hit the sack. Till tomorrow… 😎
Hunting books. Started out at Goodwill and had pretty good luck. Got 18 hard backs and 21 paperbacks there. Mostly stuff to resell.
Next hit America’s Thrift store and didn’t do much there. Screaming kids bouncing off my legs tend to make me leave anywhere prior to stomping on the little darlings. 😈 Only picked up 7 books there mostly paperbacks.
Next stop was Eagle Rock and didn’t do as well as we have in the past, but still got 23 paperbacks and one hardback. Again mostly titles for resale. Did find one Agatha Christie that we didn’t have. 😎
From there we hit 77 to 144 and crossed the dam to check out a weekly yard sale held in an old bar building a mile or so from the Ragland end of the dam. They have piles of glass ware and other stuff but today we struck out. Had a couple of things I would have liked to get but were a tad more than I would pay.
And home. I started the charcoal while Cat washed some veggies and skinned the chicken thighs. I cut up the cabbage, celery, carrots, and potatoes, seasoned and added oil and mixed well then put the chicken on top and seasoned it then cooked in the 12 inch dutch oven for an hour. Drove the cats crazy. 😈 And was quite tasty. Should get two more meals out of it.
Tomorrow is supposed to be the last game over here, so I am hitting the sack early. Not that I am planning on doing anything special for it. Just need to be there for whatever comes up and I am sure there will be something. Anyway, that’s all till tomorrow…
Another nothing day. Sorted and shifted some books. Made notes on which books we have in some of the collections and posted some lists to the blog. Got to do some searching for software to handle this stuff. Have looked in the past to no avail, but hope there is something out there now, if nothing else some thing that is done in perl or php that I can modify as needed for both collections and book sales. Anyway, did some reading and a lot of sitting and not much else. Hope tomorrow will be better. Till then.
A very prolific Sci-Fi Author. Haven’t counted the total number of books he has written but we have 57 of them. Now that I have started with the lists looks like I am gonna have to start looking for quite a few more to fill in gaps I didn’t know were there. List of books taken from his page at wikipeoda and below the fold as usual…
This list of books (below the fold) by Lawrence Block is taken from his Wikipedia page, doesn’t list all of his short story collections (of which I have 3), but seems to be up to date on the series that he writes. At present it looks like we have 37 of these, though I would have sworn that we had more of the Scudder novels. Got to get into the front of the Q-hut and see what has gotten shuffled in there that shouldn’t have.
At present there are 30 titles in the series along with several books of short stories. At present it looks like we have 26 of the books and a couple of the collections. Just finishing up the last one we have – #27 now. Gives me something to look for… 😉

Been moving room from one end of 42 4 foot shelves to the other most of the day. Still got a few to go to finish the transfer from end to end but getting close to having all of the current stuff on the shelves. Now I just gotta figure out where to build another 291 shelves. That will house the projected 20,000 books we have stuffed here and there. Actually a few less than that but say 250 or so. At 6 shelves per rack that gives 42 racks of shelves. Each rack is 4 feet so I gotta find 168 liner feet of wall space. Got to get the dozer going so I can clear the area south of here and move the other two trailers into a U. That gets me the space in connected structures about 180 feet from end to end and the yard sale trailer already has shelves in it. Think I will put it parallel to the one here now and move the 10×60 between them. Will draw it up and scan it if there is any interest. Gonna hit the sack and start it again tomorrow.
Below the fold/more link, there is a list of 88 mysteries by Agatha Christie, some with several different titles, and I am sure that there are some missing. Of these, on the living room shelves we have 66 of them (and many more in the front of the Q-hut), with several different printings/editions of some.
Gonna have to look into setting up a database for this stuff rather than the way I am doing it right now. Maybe one of these days… 🙄
Was a long night up listening to the storm. And then a long day doing nothing much but shelving a few books and reading a good bit. Hoping I get more sleep tonight and the morrow is a better day. Till then…
Waiting for it to get this way. Wind has been horrible all day. Took Cat to Pell City to meet with her mother so they could go to the funeral together and then Cat needs to do some maintenance to Martha’s computer and she is on dialup so will take a while to get updates so she is staying the night. We went early and checked out the books at America’s Thrift Store. Ended up buying way too many yet again. Still got a fair number of titles we didn’t have, filled in spots in some of the series we collect, and replaced a couple of book club books with first editions. Soon as Martha showed up I left to get back here. Wind wasn’t quite as bad as it had been going over, but still had a tiring time driving the van. Got back and been sitting and reading for the most part since then. Went out and checked contents at the fridge at the campsite, then turned off power to everything down that way at the barn. Not sure what this storm will bring so better safe than sorry. Till tomorrow…
Got up, ground coffee beans, fixed coffee, drank coffee, fixed oatmeal, ate oatmeal, looked at map to Scottsboro, noted how far it was and decided to go to Mountain Top instead. Went to Mountain Top, walked the rows, found nothing, left and went by grocery store in Southside to get sandwich meat, ate lunch at the power co picnic spot by the dam at Ohatchee, came home, put up more books and then started rearranging book shelves to get more room. Some folks came over and we talked for a while then ate supper, and now I am typing this. Long day, nothing much done. Got to carry Cat to Pell City to her great aunt’s funeral tomorrow so am gonna call it an early night. Till tomorrow…
Started out at the Poor Man’s Trade Day just to get a feel for the crowd. Quite a few folks both selling and buying. Picked up 6 paperbacks and 1 hardback mysteries all.
Moved on to Flamingo Trade Day where we ran into a guy that is selling nothing but books. Found a few titles and talked trade for a while. Nice guy, and has a good selection of books of all kinds. Will be paying him a visit on a regular basis. Bought 11 books from him.
Headed back toward Gadsden then turned onto Green Valley Road and out at the light in Southside on 77 to Rainbow City and for the 3rd time this week Eagle Rock Thrift Store. They keep putting more out and I gotta keep going back. 🙄 Got 30 paperback and 9 hardbacks there. Decided to see where the road went that Eagle Rock was on and ended up in down town Gadsden within about 3 miles. Went from there to Atalla and a small thrift store we try to hit a couple of times a year and picked up a few books there. Very slim pickens there today. Wandered around town and checked out several of the antique shops. Interesting place. Several new shops have opened since our last trip there. Gonna have to go earlier in the day next time we make the trip.
Back out to 77 and Green Vally and 432 to Saks Winn Dixie and then home. Been shelving books since other than for a short bit cooking and eating supper. Still got piles to get in place. Need more shelves. Which entails moving a large amount of dirt, and a mobile home. Then gutting and rebuilding said mobile home. And moving more dirt and another mobile home. Then I’ll have a courtyard about 60 feet square with buildings housing books surrounding it on 3 sides. 😎 Waiting is…
Tomorrow, we are gonna try to go to Scottsburrow (sp???) 1st Monday which goes for 3 days from what I have heard. Hope so. 🙄 If not we’ll have a nice ride anyway. Till tomorrow… 😎
And another week is at an end. Raining out right now which does rather match my mood. Still under the weather and needing way too much sack time. Things going on but not gonna go into any of it on here right now. Will get into it at a later date. Having trouble with the fingers hitting the wrong keys and having to retype lots of stuff so will cut this short and close for now. Till tomorrow…
