Another day gone

Little done but lived through it. Which is better than the alternative I guess at that. Not sure what is on the agenda for tomorrow. Figure we will see when it gets here. Till then…

Pinball machine Thursday

By , March 27, 2008 7:55 pm

Went to Oxford and spent most of the day working on an old electro-mechanical Super Straight (Poker) pinball machine. The owner had the manual and schematic (such as they are) which made it a lot easier but was still a real pain in the butt. It had been in a high moisture environment for quite a while (I’d say years) and most of the contacts were oxidized, as well as a WHOLE lot of the moving parts. Got most of it going and then it would start doing stupid things again. Work on it a while and get other things working and then it’d get stupid yet again. Finally figured out that it was a zeroing switch on one of the score units that was sometimes not making. Cleaned it and then the power in that part of Oxford went out. 😯 🙄 So I packed the tools up via flashlight and we came home. Gotta love stuff like that. Really wanted to give it one last check out but twas not to be. The customer is/was a computer tech from the punch card days so he should be able to finish it up should it need some other minor stuff but still…

Back is telling me I was on my feet too long today so am gonna eat then take a lie down. Till tomorrow…

Another so so day

By , March 26, 2008 9:29 pm

Got out and about a bit today. Checked out a piece of equipment and turned out it worked with the board reinstalled so didn’t have to do anything to it. Which also means that I didn’t make anything but a meal out of it. Came home and been either napping, reading or on the computer since. Hoping the parts come in fro another couple of pieces of equipment tomorrow so I can get them out. Will see. Till then…

Up and down Tuesday

By , March 25, 2008 9:26 pm

Still feeling quite a bit less than good most of the time. Did get up and out this morning and go to the yard sale trailer for an hour. Built a fire in the heater over there and puttered a bit moving books and stuff around. Came back over here to eat lunch and then just didn’t have the energy to do anything more so walked back over and closed it up for the day. Been sitting and going through feeds that I haven’t looked at in well over a month. Still got a lot of them to go but only so many I can sift through in a sitting. Hoping tomorrow will be a more productive day. Till then…

Another Monday down

By , March 24, 2008 9:15 pm

Up this am, made coffee and oatmeal then slept till noon on the couch. Spent the afternoon after lunch reading. Cooked supper then back on the couch till my gut started hurting and got up and fixed a couple of pieces of toast with strawberry jam and ate them. Seemed to ease it up. Figure I will read a bit longer then hit the sack. Till tomorrow.

Still going

By , March 23, 2008 9:30 pm

Just not as fast of as long as the Energizer Bunny. Got up and spent part of the afternoon cooking in the 12″ Dutch oven. Started out with 6 chicken breasts. When they were done, which took about 50 minutes put a pork roast in and cooked it for around 2 hours. After taking it out put 8 potatoes and 2 onions in and let them cook in the chicken and pork juices till supper. Overall was some good eating and will be for several days. Then came back in and settled on the couch again with another book. Here’s hoping I have at least as much energy tomorrow. Till then…

Long Saturday on a short couch

By , March 22, 2008 8:45 pm

Another day on the couch. Pretty much all there is to say about it. Not sure what I/we are going to be up to tomorrow. Suspect it will be spent about like today. Till then…

Good Friday

By , March 21, 2008 9:26 pm

My ass… Have had another nothing doing day. Not much sleep last night and absolutely no energy today so again spent most of the day on the couch reading. Here’s hoping tomorrow will be a better one. Till then…

Day is done

By , March 20, 2008 8:27 pm

And so am I. Had about 4 hours of energy and then it was gone. Been on the couch since with a pile of books. Will see what tomorrow brings when it gets here. Till then…

MikesArcade.com

Mainly for my info. This site has a wealth of schematics and info on older arcade video games.

Another Wednesday done

By , March 19, 2008 9:10 pm

Feeling a bit better today. Gut is still kicking and back still out but was able to function a bit today. Went and worked on a video game for a bit this afternoon. Didn’t get it fixed but closer. Now to find the parts.

Still reading the Block short stories. The dude can write! Most of his stuff is crime fiction. I think the thing I like most about his writing is that he takes you into the heads of some interesting and sometimes really scary folks and makes you like it, and come back for more. Good stuff!

Calling it an early night. Till tomorrow…

Another one of those days

By , March 18, 2008 9:45 pm

Had plans to do things today. Didn’t. Another of the feel lousy all over and have a splitting headache on top of it kind of days. Guess I will try again tomorrow, but that depends on how bad the storms are when they get to us. At least they’re saying it will be daylight when they get here this time. Hate the night storms much worse than the daytime ones even though both will kill you just as quick. Guess I figure if I can see it coming I’ve got a better chance.

Been rereading some of Lawrence Block’s short storys today. Just finished Like A Lamb To Slaughter and am fixing to start on Sometimes They Bite, and then moving on to Some Days You Get the Bear.
Wonderful stuff!

Tis later than I planned to be up so am gonna close this for now. Till tomorrow…

HOMEMADE TACO SEASONING MIX

By , March 17, 2008 9:10 pm

HOMEMADE TACO SEASONING MIX

1 tbsp. chili powder
2 tsp. onion powder
1 tsp. each ground cumin, garlic powder, paprika, powdered oregano and sugar
1/2 tsp. salt

Mix all ingredients together in a small bowl. Makes 3 tablespoons of seasoning mix, which is equal in strength to a 1/4 ounce package of commercial seasoning mix.

Taken from a post on Homesteading Today. Haven’t tried it yet but it sounds good so to save it am posting it here.

Bit by bit

By , March 17, 2008 7:24 pm

I do seem to be getting better. Haven’t slept at all today, which is more than I can say for any day in the last few. Thinking back I think this started last Tuesday but the sleeping most of the day didn’t start till Saturday. Back still hurts, and with that and the pinched nerves the gut is quite painful if I move except when the back is in a certain position, then all is ok. I think the fever is gone and I seem to be doing better with the bug so hopefully all is on the mend.

Hoping to get over to the yard sale trailer tomorrow and start working on things in there again.

Got out this afternoon and cooked a couple of shoulder roasts (beef) in the dutch oven (12″) Turned them several times about a half hour apart and cooked them for almost 2 hours. Quite tasty and tender though a bit dry. Will soak them at least overnight if not for 24 hours next time and see if that takes care of it.

Am going to look for a book to read for a while and then hit the sack. Till tomorrow…

Some better

By , March 16, 2008 8:21 pm

Still not moving or doing much but seem to be gaining on it. Was upright the morning for a while and got some of the backlog of stuff posted. Hitting the sack and will try again tomorrow. Till then.

Joe Pogan Sculptures

:: Joe Pogan Sculptures ::

This dude does some seriously cool work with found materials. I love the concept! Gonna have to play with some of the crap in the piles at the barn (as soon as I get the welding tanks filled).

Build Your Own Self-Watering Container Garden : Planet Green

I’ve seen the mailorder units and they work great, especially for tomatoes. The only problem I see with the one pictured in the linked article is the use of a nearly transparent tub which might result in algae growth in the water and cause the roots to keep away from the sides. Going to try one or more this year instead of fighting with the ground. Will try to get pix and post about it when I do.

The Secret Museum of Mankind

The Secret Museum of Mankind

Probably not safe for work as “here there be tits”, but please note that we are talking “National Geographic” type tits, and not “girl’s gone wild” tits, so whatever/whichever you have been warned.

Weird stuff. Lots of pics that I have never seen before, and some that I didn’t want to see at all 😯 but overall an interesting site from a historical (hysterical???) prospective.

Seriously steampunk! Only thing this project needs to be perfect is construction pics. Thanks to Steve for the link.
