Thursday finished

By , March 6, 2008 10:33 pm

Another nothing day. Sorted and shifted some books. Made notes on which books we have in some of the collections and posted some lists to the blog. Got to do some searching for software to handle this stuff. Have looked in the past to no avail, but hope there is something out there now, if nothing else some thing that is done in perl or php that I can modify as needed for both collections and book sales. Anyway, did some reading and a lot of sitting and not much else. Hope tomorrow will be better. Till then.

There was an “Ask Slashdot” a while back about book cataloging software–open source, of course–let me see if I can find the link. (Love Slashdot, but couldn’t Commander Taco spend some quality time coding a better search engine for the site?) Well crap, I’ll look later, they had some good suggestions (it seemed to me). Now, there is an open-source library management software (catalogs and checks in/checks out books, maintains a patron database, etc.) that I am struggling to remember the name of….Evergreen! That’s it! I don’t know if that would work for you or not, but it’s free, it runs on Linux, and Georgia has been using it for their public library for YEARS–they paid developers to write it, and then GPLed it. Neat, eh.

I’ll get back to you later after I search some more…
