Music file compressed 1,000 times smaller than mp3 “This is essentially a human-scale system of reproducing music,” says Mark Bocko, professor of electrical and computer engineering and co-creator of the technology. “Humans can manipulate their tongue, breath, and fingers only so fast, so in theory we shouldn’t really have to measure the music many thousands of times a second like we do on a CD. As a result, I think we may have found the absolute least amount of data needed to reproduce a piece of music.”
This seems to be more of a MIDI type of process than an MP3 compression technique. It’s quite an interesting process but methinks that the writer/editor went for the sensational rather than factual reporting.
Instead of trying to figure it out, we need to not buy their product until they change their ways. Money talks, both in sales due to a smart merchant and in lost sales due to merchant stupidity. Sounds like Amazon is in the latter category yet once again. 👿
Download the video and listen to it many times. On the big stereo. Loud. Good stuff! Weird techie humor! Expect younger viewers to question your sanity… 😉
Awesome music! Love it! They have quite a few free downloads as well as a hell of a deal on grabbing all their music via download vs buying the individual albums which I intend to take advantage of as soon as I get some spare cash.
For those with a taste for old Jazz, here ya go! Lotta good stuff on this site. Real player format but I suspect that there is some way to convert them to mp3 or ogg. Enjoy!
Gotta get off my butt and get the albums up here and the phonograph hooked up to the Macintosh and then to the computer to rip them to the hard drive. This looks interesting and seems to be just what I need. Now to find the room to set it all up…
