Oh, and Windo$e 7 home premium. Haven’t talked her into letting me nuke it and install Ubuntu yet. But haven’t given up either… 😉

For $348 + tax, got an eMachine with Intel 2.2 GHZ processor, 2 gb ram, DL dvd burner, 250 gb hd, & 15.6 inch display. Looks good so far.

Well, after Cat’s desktop let the magic smoke out this morning, we went out looking at new machines. Ended up at WW and got her a laptop.

And one more ditto day: Home again and was a lucky thing today as the rains came and tried to flood us out. Was ou…

Ah, I see location and posting from is mirrored also. Cool!

And for those on twitter reading this and not knowing what I’m blathering about, am posting from identi.ca which is mirrored to twitter.

Seems to be an artifact of the site. If I click on the button to share the location it gives the wrong info. If not it’s correct. ???

Not sure what the deal is with the location thing. First two posts show the correct city and state. Last three are WAY off.

Not sure if that is an artifact of quiting sugar or something to do with this bug.

And I think my sense of smell is improving too. Have been noticing odors that I haven’t smelled in years, even through the cold/whatever.

Getting more accustomed to drinks without sugar. Not using sugar substitutes either. Interesting how the other subtle flavors come out.

Another ditto day: As in home and sick. Hoping tomorrow will be an improvement. Till then…

Trying out the identi.ca microblogging service. And it does show up on the twitter feed. Now to see if I can get it patched into the blog.

Well, thought I had posted but now it says I haven’t. Not sure what’s up with that. Ah, had failed to validate the email address.

@oldgreypoet Sorry to hear it but understand. Have been thinking about doing the same myself. A quick tweet is far easier than a whole post.

Still some lightening and may get a bit more heavy rain but hoping the really nasty stuff is history and doesn’t pop up again.

Some interesting storms around us this afternoon. So far nothing more than a power flicker here and from wunderground.com looks about over.

Guess I’ll see if there has been any progress in getting Skype working on the PPC platform as that’s about all that’s keeping me using OSX.

Got the files needed installed and the old iMac G3/400 is better at playing DVD’s under Debian than the iBook G4’s are under OS X 10.4

DVD drive works. Now to locate and install the files needed to play a DVD.

Of course being a PPC machine flash isn’t working but I can live without that. Put a Bluetooth mouse on it and it’s working fine.

Haven’t tried the DVD player yet but will get to that soon.

Only used 2 of the AA cells as the mem holds fine at 3 volts. Got the computer all back together and everything seems to be working fine.

Got the external battery(s) installed on the iMac G3/400 DV SE. Used a $1.00 stickup LED light from DollarTree as the battery holder.

is located. And that way I can get it done today for no extra cash out of pocket + save the fuel to go to Oxford and back.

and attach to the outside of the case with duct tape. Actually will put them in the compartment in the back where the aux video connector

Just checked the Shack website and before I spend the $9.99 or $19.49 for a single battery I’ll solder 3 AAA batteries together, run wires,

Looks like a trip to Radio Shack is gonna be in the future to get the 1/2A 3.6 V battery.

Back from the evil empire. Still without a battery for the iMac G3 but with most everything else we went for.

Gonna try for a WW run. Hoping we manage to stay upright long enough to make it through.

At home Tuesday: Has been an ill day. Or rather I have been ill today. Hoping tomorrow goes better though not re…

but only managed to get the front opening uncovered and a rain shield installed. Better than nothing as it did cool off a bit afterwards.

More needs to be done but will have to be taken in small bites and spaced out a bit at a time. Had hoped to get a fan installed in the qhut

Another sick day at home. Got a few small things done in between sitting/laying down.

Rain just started. Another day of no rain forecast. Not really complaining as it seems to be cooling things off a bit.

I’ve used that were MUCH newer. For the moment am gonna take a liedown as am still quite under the weather. Till later folks… 😉

BTW the last several posts have been from IceWeasel on the iMac. Bit of a lag on screen when typing but no worse than some Windo$e boxen

Guess I’ll get a 1/2A 3.6v battery for it and put it back together for use as an extra backup machine.

Not doing bad at all for a machine this old. And interestingly enough have a higher screen rez than Ubuntu ever attempted to show.

And only had to tweek the xorg.conf file a little to get it going. Then installed XFCE and am online at a reasonably fast speed.

Not sure what they have screwed up in X under Ubuntu but tis royally screwed. Did a basic install under Debian with Gnome

And now after fighting with Ubuntu and it’s ilk for 3 days have got Debian up and running on the G3 iMac in about 2 hours.

Burning a cd to try with Debian now. Been fighting with Ubuntu/Lubuntu/Xubuntu, so changing tracks a bit to see if another distro will work.

Been a day mostly spent asleep. The rest of the time spent trying to get linux to work on an old iMac G3. Everything works except X.

Twas a Monday: All the day long. Felt like crap all day too. Still do. Not sure if I’m gonna make it tomorrow o…

Gonna eat, so back later… 😉

Other half is Christmas stuff and can come here for storage till November. Got a bunch of other stuff that needs to come here to store too.

Guess tomorrow will be unpacking and pricing stuff. Got boxes piled everywhere. Hoping we can find room for at least half of the stuff.

Got to finish clearing around the 1 ton as it’s been sold and is almost half way to paid for. Got to get the Toyota cranked and moved too.

Cut as close to the trucks in the field as I could get. Got to put the boom on the tractor and get in there and remove stuff to get closer.

Also got the drive all the way to the road from gate to gate cut as well as the path into the tractor shed and the old trailer front yard.

Got a fair amount done. Old air soft parking lot is cut for the greatest part. Still got places I need to clear of crap prior to cutting.

Tractor cranked. Had part of a tank of fuel. Hooked bush hog up and been killing things till it got too dark for me to safely work.
