Shedworking

Don’t know how I have missed this site this long, but now it’s on the feedreader so nevermore will I miss a post on sheds, and working in and on sheds. Got a lot of old posts to read through and they are some mighty fine posts too, I must say. Good stuff, I can see time problems till I get them all read… 😉

RENAISSANCE MONTH

RENAISSANCE MONTH

That time of year again. Hope to make it for a day trip anyway but would rather spend at least one night. Tis a 4 hour drive from here and I just don’t do more than that in one day very easy any more.

Trailer for my bikes

Square tubing, bolted together bike trailer frame. Interesting design. Like the square corner reinforcement pieces.

Still going…

By , October 4, 2007 9:24 pm

Didn’t get much done on the camper yesterday. Just too tired from the day before. Probably should have taken the day off today too but worked as much as I could between short showers.

Got the front left side conduit rib bent and installed and the left side finished up, wood wise. Also got the front two ribs bent and installed along with several of the front panels. Still got 5 (I think) outside pieces of plywood to cut and install on the front and then the curved part is ALL DONE! Still have some on the back/door wall to do as well as the door to build, which will get done but not till after the skin gets put on the top and sides.

Went to the storage area yesterday afternoon late and got enough of the plastic sheeting to cover the entire camper. Hope to get most of it put on tomorrow. Depends on the weather. Would rather have the rain than finish this up, as dry as it’s been this summer, but suspect from the weather report I just read that we won’t get much.

Will try to get some more pix tomorrow. Didn’t get any today. More as I get it done…

Popup camper into standup round topped camper

By , October 2, 2007 11:04 pm

Got some pix today before and after working on it. Started with only one section of roof decking on and finished with one half done and the other done to the last section toward the front. Still lacking the front top decking and 3 ribs. One will be a copy of the one on the other side. The other two will have to be formed to match the forward arch of the side rib. All the bending has been done by hand, foot, bender for sharper end bends, and mallet and hammer for that final fine tuning. 😉

DBP – David’s Batch Processor

Though named David’s Batch Processor it has nothing to do with me but that I use it. Tis a super handy batch processor plug-in for gimp. If you use gimp and need to modify large groups of pix check it out. Fantastic program. Has saved me many hours of tedious hand adjusting in just the few short weeks since I found it.

Bits

By , September 29, 2007 10:11 pm

Been working on the new/old camper. Started up with the walls from the front and decided on doing it a different way from the way I did the paper design. Not unusual for me at all.

Got the front/hitch and side walls up to 4 feet and decided on yet another method of building the top. So redid the back/entry wall and bent several pieces of 1/2 inch emt into 6 foot diameter half circles. These mounted on the top 6 inches of the walls about 2 feet apart.

Started at the entry wall and bent plywood around the outside of the conduit and screwed it to the conduit creating a half round top. Only got the first course or arch done so far. Will try to get the rest of it done tomorrow. Then will cut window openings into the plywood shell and then start covering the entire thing with plastic.

So far cost is under $5.00 and that was for screws. Will have to come out of pocket for caulk, glue and maybe some other screws, but so far all the materials are scraps laying around out here. Gonna use the tires off a boat trailer that we are looking at making into a teardrop trailer so that will make the only other cost of getting it on the road the tag.

Found the waterproof hinge for the teardrop projects back hatch on an old camper shell that I am taking apart for windows for the current camper project. I really like junk…

Slowly, slowly eats the elephant…

dreamstate – Currently ranting about PC World
Refund for me! PC World buckle to the pressure.

Looks like PC World backed off and gave him a full refund! Great to hear that public/internet opinion made a difference in this case. What’s so bad is that it took this long and this much bad publicity to get anything done. Maybe the next time someone comes in with a similar problem they’ll just fix it and shit can the “Linux is installed so you got no hardware warranty” attitude…

Shrook v2.6 released

Shrook v2.6 released
One final note: Mac OS X v10.3 is no longer supported.

Shrook was about the last piece of software I paid for the use of. I mainly got it because at the time it was the only (or best/easiest anyway) way to read feeds from different computers and be able to keep up with read/unread feeds on them all. Then not terribly long after I paid for it, the author changed the way he charged for it, and instead of charging for the software, started charging for the usage of the site that allowed for the cross platform/multi computer usage. He did roll the payments for those that had paid for the program into the first years site fee so I can’t really complain about that. I still quit using it as I started spending more time on the linux box and less on the mac. If I was still using it (and paying for the service) this bit about v10.3 not being supported would be the last straw.

I quit supporting Apple’s stupid DRM lock-in in any financial way (no iPod or iPhone in this here house folks!) not long after I bought my second iBook G4 and am as a result still using OS X 10.3.9 which is locking me out of quite a few updates to software I use on a daily basis. I’m leaning toward Slackintosh for my next iBook OS update.

To get this post back on reading feeds, I like (and use) the Google feed reader. I keep looking at/debating the software giant vs the small software author question, but the ease of use, cross platform availability, and (most important to me) not having to have anything but a current browser to use, no matter where you are or what machine you are on, makes it the way to go for me.

Just my $0.02 worth/rant for the morning. Sorry Shrook…

DailyTech – Peruvian Meteorite Mystery Solved

DailyTech – Peruvian Meteorite Mystery Solved
Now, a team of Peruvian researchers have determined the true cause — ground water tainted with arsenic.

The villagers’ reactions were the result of inhaling arsenic fumes, according to Luisa Macedo, a researcher for Peru’s Mining, Metallurgy, and Geology Institute (INGEMMET), who visited the crash site.

Peru’s soil is rich in arsenic deposits and when the meteor hit, columns of steam were created by the heat from the meteor. This steam bore particles of arsenic, causing the various afflictions.

Makes sense to me. Hate it for the folks exposed, but certainly better than than some outer space viral nasty…
