Future Tech: DARPA Looking Into Invisible, Shoot-Through, Self-Healing Armor – Gizmodo
Getting so it’s harder and harder to tell what’s real and what’s sci-fi. Gonna have to read up on the metamaterials. Seems like I read something about them a year or so ago but tis flushed from the memory stacks now.
Linux.com :: How to create poster presentations with Scribus
Another blow against overpriced publishing software. I’ve tried Scribus before but not in a while (but I haven’t needed to do any layout or print work in a while either). Guess I will install it and try it again just to see how much it’s changed.
Yea, and the check is in the mail…
I’ve read what the article states but I still wonder what this supposed study is based on. Is it total actual exploits fixed or just the ones that they admit to? Seems like the numbers don’t make a lot of sense with Winblows having 90 patches and apple 129 (?) etc. But then depending on HOW you slant your data you can make anything mean anything you want. Show all the data and results and then we’ll talk…
Upon entering PerlMonks.org this morning (June 21, 2007) I was greeted with:
Happy Monkday!!
You’ve been here 6 years.
Had no idea I had been a member that long. Time really flies when you’re having life…
Awesome music! Love it! They have quite a few free downloads as well as a hell of a deal on grabbing all their music via download vs buying the individual albums which I intend to take advantage of as soon as I get some spare cash.
Gambas – Gambas Almost Means Basic
Interesting looking programming environment. Just saw a reference in TiraEcol, the comic that I posted a link to earlier today, and looked it up. Turns out that PCLOS has it in the package manager so have installed it. Now to see if I can figure it out and then see if I remember ANYTHING about programing in BASIC.
Been working on getting some of the books in order. Talk about a tall order. At this point I can’t even begin to guess how many titles we have. Most places on the shelves they are stacked 2 and 3 piles deep and in NO order what so ever. And the shelves are all full. So one of the next steps is to figure out where I can put more shelves. Right now I have been moving titles around to try to get the most prolific authors titles together. And even that is not exactly true as I have only been working in two or three rooms. Haven’t even started in the most crowded buildings where the majority of the books are stored. Just in the living areas where I would like to be able to find things. But as the saying goes “The journey of a thousand miles starts with the first step” so this seems to be mu first step in this madness. If energy allows I suspect I may finish sometime about 3 years from now. More as it gets done…
Sycamore Ceiling Fan: Works Smarter, Not Harder (TreeHugger)

Interesting concept. From what is posted in the comments the efficiency is way on up there for the amount of air it moves. Cool! in more ways than one. 😉
BurningBeach
: playa recipes
Food for the Playa! Only complaint I have with the site is that the recipes are in .doc format. Some of them look good, others not so, but all seem to be eatable.
freshmeat.net: Project details for Frog
Frog is a tool for publishing and maintaining contents on a Web site. It is a rewrite of Radiant CMS and features an elegant user interface, flexible templating with layouts, snippets, and flexible page parts, a simple user management/rights system, search engine friendly URLs, password protected live administration, and support for Textile.
Another bit of software that I am somewhat interested in looking into further.
TreeLine
What is TreeLine?
Do you have lots of sticky notes lying around with various useful information jotted down? Or many lists of books, movies, website logins, personal contacts, or things to do? Can you find them when you need them? Well, I often couldn’t. So here’s my answer.
Some would call TreeLine an Outliner, others would call it a PIM. Basically, it just stores almost any kind of information. A tree structure makes it easy to keep things organized. And each node in the tree can contain several fields, forming a mini-database. The output format for each node can be defined, and the output can be shown on the screen, printed, or exported to html.
For what it’s worth. Looks interesting enough to try. Just got to get off my ass and do so…
