Finally Friday

By , February 29, 2008 7:18 pm

And another week is at an end. Raining out right now which does rather match my mood. Still under the weather and needing way too much sack time. Things going on but not gonna go into any of it on here right now. Will get into it at a later date. Having trouble with the fingers hitting the wrong keys and having to retype lots of stuff so will cut this short and close for now. Till tomorrow…

Worst hard drive crash I’ve seen – Neowin Forums

Now that’s a DEAD hard drive! 😯 😆 😆 😆

Thursday done

By , February 28, 2008 8:26 pm

Went out and about for a while today. Checked out Poor Man’s (had the name wrong) trade day today. There were 5 vendors. Guess it was too cold for most folks. Nothing we were interested in so headed back toward Anniston. Went down Bynum Leatherwood road and stopped at a newish place out there. Nothing we were interested in so went on down to 202 and looked in at the place there, but twas no one at home. On into Anniston and paid insurance on the truck. Sucker is costing me more in insurance than I spend on gas and with these fuel prices tis saying something. Gonna shop around and see if I can’t find a better price. Went from there to Oxford and checked out the books for sale at the library but didn’t see anything there either. Back into Anniston via Noble and made a stop at the Salvation Army store and found several books that were worth the visit/trip. Haven’t gone through them yet to see how many we did get but there were several new first editions as well as a bunch of older hardbacks and some paperbacks that we couldn’t pass up. After buying way too many headed up Noble to the old Gadsden highway and to 431 and the grocery store in Alexandria. Got a few things and came home. Ate lunch and I hit the sack for the afternoon. Was totally done in. Got up when Steve came over for a few, then fixed supper and read a bit, then came down to write this. Gonna hit the sack in a few. Seems like I have 3 to 5 hours a day that I feel up to doing anything and then it’s all down the drain. Hope this spell lifts soon. Till tomorrow…

Another Wednesday down

By , February 27, 2008 8:57 pm

As per yesterdays post we headed to Gadsden this am to check out the Wednesday crowd at Poor Boys Trade Day. Got there around 10:30 to find no one at all there. Guess either it was too cold or they changed days and aren’t opening on Wednesday any more. Went on over to the Eagle Rock Thrift Store in Rainbow City to see if they had put any more books of interest out. They had. 🙄 Cat got a small handheld basket when we went in but shortly went and got a buggy. We picked up 77 paperbacks and 14 hardbacks. 😯

Left there and drove back to 278, rode around and explored a bit of Hokes Bluff then went to Piedmont where we ate a lunch of sandwiches we brought with us. After eating rode around downtown to find that there ain’t a whole lot there anymore. Lot of stuff wasn’t open either. Kinda weird. From there we came back home. Been sitting are reading since with a short break for supper.

Gonna try for another trip to Poor Boys tomorrow to see how the crowd is. There are several places between here and there that we check out from time to time that are only open on Thurs, Fri, and/or Sat, so even if Poor Boys is a washout again maybe we will get lucky and find some of the other places open. For now my head is hurting again so am gonna go up and hit the sack. Till tomorrow.

Tuesday after the storm

By , February 26, 2008 8:57 pm

Has been a much of nothing day. Got out in the early afternoon to go by my folks house for a bit, then went to the post office to ship out some e-bay stuff. Made a stop by a thrift shop on the way back where Cat got one book, and then we came home. The rest of the day was spent cooking or reading. Going to call it an early night and in the morning going to try to get up early and head over to Gadsden to Poor Boys trade day and see what the Wednesday traffic is like there.

Monday at the thrift stores

By , February 25, 2008 11:00 pm

Did a round of them in Gadsden and Rainbow City today buying books. 😯 What else? Like we need more. 🙄 Got 97 paperbacks, 54 hardbacks and one book on tape. Fair number of books I and/or Cat were interested in and a few that should pay for them all. Maybe, hopefully… I have shelved all but about 50 and of those there are maybe 20 that were duplicates so those will go either online or to trade day. Filled in spots in 3 or 4 collections of older hardbacks and added 20 or so paperbacks that I haven’t read by half a dozen writers that I have been following for years. So the day was well worth the time invested and money spent.

Not much better than yesterday but some. Will see what the morrow brings. Till then… 😎

Sunday again

By , February 24, 2008 6:44 pm

This post is simply to fulfill my duty to post something every day. Very little done and not up to posting. One of those days that I could have done without. Will try for more tomorrow but the way I feel right now it is likely to be more of the same. Till then… 😕

Another game survived

By , February 23, 2008 8:13 pm

Got through the day without major problems. Biggest complaint was the cold to the best of my knowledge. I know that was my biggest complaint. Especially right at and just after dark. Am mucho glad to be inside and have a fire going. Course we were sitting around the fire at the camp but wet wood just ain’t good for making really hot fires.

Gonna have to do some more work on/in the kitchen area. We fed 23 if I counted right. That’s paying and staff. Just got to get the procedure a bit more refined. Bit by bit we’re getting there. I think. Maybe.

Gonna go curl up under some covers with a book and try to get rid of this chill. Will type again hopefully in more depth on the morrow. Till then…

Friday

By , February 22, 2008 11:25 pm

Twas the day that was. Another day of little done, though much to do. Tomorrow is another game day. Will be up an at it in some manor in the early am. Got circles within circles within circles going on here and there within the clicks. With that bit of inside nothingness I will close for the night. Tomorrow is another day. Bigger, stronger, faster, and needing less direction, I hope…

Rainy Thursday

By , February 21, 2008 10:09 pm

Started raining this am around 6 and continued till well after dark. I’m still on the unhealthy list, so didn’t get out in it at all. Kept the fire going to try to keep warm and that was about the extent of my physical activity today. Charged the camera battery to take a picture for the Too Many Books site header and never got around to taking the walk into the trailer to take the picture. 🙄 Just one of those days. Fixing to hit the sack and go at it again tomorrow. Till then… 😎

Okay, so I didn’t go to bed yet. Started futzing around with gimp and some old pix of books and came up with a header for Too Many Books that’s not too bad. Will still try to get a pix of some of the piled high and deep shelves in the trailer tomorrow and redo it somewhat but it is up for now, for what it’s worth. The site isn’t live yet, as there is nothing in the database. We have about 3000 books in another database that I am trying to get to import into Zen Cart, so when I get all the i’s dotted and t’s crossed maybe we will actually have stuff in there. 😯 Once again I am heading toward the arms of Morpheus, so untill tomorrow…

Hump day once again

By , February 20, 2008 8:19 pm

Was another slow day for me. Spent most of it siting and reading. Got out this afternoon and started on the tower for the heater flue. Got it done except for the ladder side. Still have 6 rungs to cut and bolt in and it is ready to set upright. 3 feet on the side at the base and 1 ft on the side at the top, 15 ft high. Will get pix in the next day or so. Suspect that I will build many more of these to use as power distribution towers to get power to the base and the town where trees aren’t handy to hang the wires from. 🙄 Just won’t build ladders into them all. Takes a lot of bolts (4 per rung) as well as close cutting of the ends of the rungs to make the holes line up.

Walked and looked at the area that is gonna have to be leveled to move the trailer uphill tonight. Will be 3 to 4 feet of earth removal required. Should fill the parking area about level. Now to get the dozer running again. 🙄

Gonna go back out and look at things a bit more. Got several large trees to take out as well as several groups of smaller trees. Will make good lumber.

And that’s it for the night. Till the morrow… 😎

Listless Tuesday

By , February 19, 2008 8:59 pm

Another day of getting little done. I’m feeling better and did get out and about here on the property today but didn’t do much but sit in the sun and read for most of the day.

Did manage to get the erector set steel moved over here and ready to build a tower for the woodburners flue to be supported in and by. Am gonna build it similar to the one by the creek with a ladder rungs on one side to facilitate getting to the top and cleaning it out.

Also got some split wood from the camp to burn in the heater here till I can get some cut and split as we are about out again. Hope to get on that tomorrow, with the rai coming again on Thursday and Friday.

Cat helped me load some bricks from the pile at the creek and I unloaded most of them and laid them at the entry door to the wood room to get us out of the water when it rains. Will get another load and finish up asap.

Not that late but I am about done in so will close for the night. More tomorrow.

Tis gone

By , February 18, 2008 10:12 pm

Had something but there is nothing now. At times I really hate the bright shinny objects and sudden interruptions that make it all go away. But tis life…

The day was. I ground coffee beans, made coffee, drank coffee, cooked, ate, read, cooked, ate, drove Cat to the dentist, then to the store and then home, read, ate, read, wrote on the blog, and will soon call it a night.

Will try again tomorrow. Hope it is a better one than today. Having a hard time getting anything typed out, hoping this fog will lift soon. Will try to get more on the blog asap…

Rainy Sunday

By , February 17, 2008 11:11 pm

And all I have done is read, eat, and sleep. Just woke up after falling asleep on the sofa while reading and am heading upstairs to return to the land of nod as soon as I post this. Will make an effort to do better than this tomorrow. Till then…

Roman Numerals

Roman Numerals

For those times I just can’t get the brain to work, this page has a Roman to decimal/decimal to Roman calculator on it, as well as a general description of how the Roman numbering system works.

Sorta here Saturday

By , February 16, 2008 10:26 pm

But just barely. Got some kind of crud that is not being well behaved. Hoping it will go away soon. Seems like I have said that earlier this week but with a different curd. Been moving, sorting, boxing, and shelving books. Got the new shelves about full up and still got a lot of books to go so guess I will be building more shelving as soon as I can figure out where to put it. Will try to have more of a real post tomorrow, but for now am gonna call it a night.

Friday once again

By , February 15, 2008 10:01 am

Made it through the day yesterday without killing anyone but only just.

Went to a local thrift store and picked up a few books. Like we really need more. 🙄 Did lunch at a local Chinese restaurant but due to the high level of MSG that the food had will most likely not be eating there again. Then went to another thrift store and got a lot more books ( > 50) and then came home. After getting the books out and looking at the prices marked in them felt like going back and getting arrested returning them to the arsehat that gave us a real good deal on them by force feeding them to him. Rectally. 😯 👿

Part of (possibly most) of my anger was due to the MSG and assorted smells (stinks) we encountered during our outing. And part of it was him telling Cat that all the hardbacks were $3 when over half of them were marked $1. I do not plan to return. Will travel further and spend my book $$$ elsewhere.

Got settled down a bit and started trying to shelve the new books and then got back on finishing the alphabetizing of the newest shelves. Time came and ate supper and returned to the project and had almost finished it when my back went out at the point that affects my gut. Started hurting and belching so had to call it a night. Gut is still hurting so will have to get on the floor and try to realign the back sometime later today after breakfast has settled a bit.

Hoping to get a few of the books from the old trailer moved up today too. Will have to see how the back does first. Arms are giving me fits so will quit typing for now. Hope to post again later tonight. Will see how it goes. Till then… 😕

Thursday morning cold

By , February 14, 2008 9:02 am

16.9 degrees F was our low here in the valley this morning. Is up to 27 now outside and is a chilly 52.3 here inside at nearly 9 am. Have thrown more wood in the heater and got it cranked up a bit higher than usual but it will take a while to get up to 70 degrees in here if it ever does today. Predicted high is 58 and am hoping it makes it. Just not up to cold weather right now. Suspect that I will be looking back and wishing for some of this cold by mid summer though…

Hump day

By , February 13, 2008 8:59 pm

Or so I hope. Done very little today but try to stay warm and read. Hands and arms not having a good day. Over did it yesterday and refused to listen even after the first and second warnings so I am paying today. Hope to be back at it by Friday at the latest. Cutting it short cause it hurts to type. Till tomorrow…

Tuesday and the mess tent

By , February 12, 2008 9:54 pm

Got up, ground beans and fixed coffee, half a pot left so only added enough water to top it off and ground half the normal batch of beans, boiled the oatmeal for breakfast, ate, checked feeds and email and went to the camp to start getting the mess tent taken apart and rebuilt. Took most of the day but it got done. Walls moved, and new/old coverings installed. Added a pipe across the front for the front wall/door to hang/slide on. Tim removed Mihel’s shelter and reboxed his stuff. Now we can grade that area and start building the orientation/meeting center.

Till I type again.
