Inside the Mind of the Man Who Tried to Milk Linux

Just looking at the picture is enough to put me off wanting to have ANYTHING to do with him. Gotta wonder what he was thinking when that picture was made. And when he broke his mirror… 😉

Technology news » Learn python in 10 minutes.

Well first off you got to know how to program and have a bit of experience with other languages and second there isn’t any way you are gonna learn any language in 10 minutes. But this article will get you started with python and does a good job of getting the basics presented. Gonna have to spend some time rereading it. Probably a lot more than 10 minutes. 😉

Physicists establish ‘spooky’ quantum communication

Ok. I’ve read it a couple of times now and I understand what they are saying. I think. But I don’t understand how what they say is happening can happen. But then again I guess that’s why I am here pounding on this keyboard instead of there doing science. Or something. I’m confused, therefore I think. Or something else…

Interesting little cluster! This link via email from Steve who is at work and can’t post. Thanks Steve! Love the Monty Python poster on the wall behind the desk in one of the pictures! Cool stuff!

Science Fiction Writers of America abuses the DMCA – Boing Boing

First the RIAA then the MPAA and now the SFWA are abusing the DMCA. This is a good read about a bad problem that isn’t going away and in fact seems to be getting a LOT worse.

The one good thing that I noted as I finished reading the article is that Boing Boing now has comments! At last!

Several of the comments about this latest atrocity are by Sci-Fi writers and for the most part they aren’t at all pleased by the actions of the SFWA. Only one (at the time I read this prior to posting) thought it was a good thing but the guy didn’t give his full name so who knows if it was an actual author or just a troll.

As much as I hate lawyers, I think the authors that have been affected by this stupid act need to file suit against the SFWA and the person who caused this. Don’t know if it will do any good but it might add a bit more fuel to the anti-DMCA movement.

Foxmarks

I haven’t tried this yet but plan to. It allows one to use a single set of bookmarks on all the machines you use no matter where you are. Mozilla only (I think). Hope the actuality is as good as the concept.

It would be so nice if judges on tech cases had at least SOME idea what the hell they were dealing with. Idiots…

blog gnist org – Synergy – two screens, two OSes

Have read about (and may have even posted about) synergy before but never tried it. Tis a good read and he does several things to ensure that no one snoops. Good pointers and code to go with them. When I get another monitor (ain’t giving my flat screen/iBook dual screen setup up) for the linux box and get it back up and running I’d like to try to set it up like this dude has done. Nice!

Neat! Love the tolerances they are dealing with! 50 millionths of an inch works whereas 100 doesn’t. Steam is some tenacious stuff!

Boing Boing: The IT Crowd — season two, episode one

Good stuff! So glad to see it back for a second season.

Note for those with Macs or at least those with older iBook G4s with 10.3.X on them – The name is cut off with a * at the end. Need to remove the last 4 or more characters and add a .avi and Quicktime will play it fine.

Hexayurt Project – How To Live Wiki

Steve pointed out that I hadn’t posted about this yet so here it is. One of the links that I lost in the iBook freezing up and firefox not reloading all the many windows and tabs that I had open.

Lotta potential in this design. I am thinking about using a framing system of some kind (2×2 or 2×4 with some trimming done or maybe bamboo or saplings) and an alternative fabric and/or plastic roofing/siding. I realize this defeats the purpose behind this design but for the buildings I need I think it will work out cheaper though not necessarily cooler/warmer.

Don’t think I have posted this link before but am too lazy to look so if I have here it is again. 😉

These are interesting but it would be nice if he would give a little background and maybe a view of the actual guts and/or construction of one of them. Cool stuff anyway.
