Microsoft: we listen to broadcasters, not customers - Boing Boing
Danny sez, “A Microsoft spokesperson told CNet today that ‘Microsoft included technologies in Windows based on rules set forth by the (Federal Communications Commission). As part of these regulations, Windows Media Center fully adheres to the flags used by broadcasters and content owners to determine how their content is distributed and consumed.’ Do they really mean that they’re obeying the broadcast flag that courts and Congress rejected as being executive overreach by the FCC? The ones they have no obligation to follow?”
This is about the best reason I have yet seen to ditch Microsoft and move to Linux or Unix. I’d say more but it would just be Microsoft bashing and they are doing a fine job of that all by themselves…

U.S. Health Agency Forbids Sensitive Data On Apple MacBooks — Security — InformationWeek
In the wake of a widely publicized security breach that left thousands of patient records exposed, the federal government’s National Institutes of Health is forbidding all employees who use Apple’s MacBook laptops from handling sensitive data as of Friday, InformationWeek has learned.
Employees at the health agency who store medical records and other personal information on laptops must use systems that run either on Microsoft (NSDQ: MSFT)’s Windows operating system or Linux, according to an agency memo.
This is beyond words. Go, read the article, especially the comments. Typical top management CYA BS.

Microsoft Threatens to Go Hostile on Yahoo | Epicenter from Wired.com
It’s this type of bullying that keeps getting them into trouble in the courts. You’d think they’d have learned by now to at least give the appearance of playing nice. Yet another reason I will never purchase another Micro$oft product and promote Linux every chance I get.

Intel shuns Microsoft, taps Linux for mobile Net devices | Tech news blog - CNET News.com
Keep screwing your customers and partners long enough and they WILL turn on you, as MicroSloth is learning, or should be by now.

PlexNex: Today’s Lesson: Do Not F**k with the Negroponte Brothers
Interesting slant on OLPC and the Intel mess. It’ll be a hoot if they do manage to drag Gates and micro$loth into it.

Groklaw - Sweden’s SIS Declares OOXML Vote Invalid - Will Change Vote from Yes to Abstain
Seems that Micro$loth’s vote fixing hijinks has caused Sweden to reexamine the process and declare the vote invalid. I don’t think they are winning any friends with this stupid and costly behavior.
If they would just put the money that they waste on crap like this into making products that are simple, effective and generally usable then they wouldn’t have to lie, misrepresent and bribe their way into getting folks to buy and use their products.

Groklaw - Microsoft Memo to Partners in Sweden Surfaces: Vote Yes for OOXML
And once again Micro$loth proves how they prefer to buy their way through life rather than get off their collective arses and actually produce a good solid product that folks will WANT to use. Asshats…

FSF - Microsoft cannot declare itself exempt from the requirements of GPLv3
That’s just not the way licensing works. And Microsloths legal department knows this. Idiots.

blog gnist org - Synergy - two screens, two OSes
Have read about (and may have even posted about) synergy before but never tried it. Tis a good read and he does several things to ensure that no one snoops. Good pointers and code to go with them. When I get another monitor (ain’t giving my flat screen/iBook dual screen setup up) for the linux box and get it back up and running I’d like to try to set it up like this dude has done. Nice!

Boing Boing: Universal Music CEO: iPod owners are thieves
“These devices are just repositories for stolen music, and they all know it,” UMG chairman/CEO Doug Morris says. “So it’s time to get paid for it.”
Pot/Kettle Kettle/Pot. And how much of this extortion money will the artists actually see, Dougie???
