Boing Boing: Google Books promotes banned books for Banned Books Week
I can hear the “I want total control religous nuts” (of all faiths) screaming to shut the evil Google.com down, NOW!
ARTICLE: Why Crown Vics are tops with cops (The Virginian-Pilot – HamptonRoads.com/PilotOnline.com)
Why Clown Vics are the car of choice with cops. Way back when I was doing custom car work I hated putting the cages and stuff in anything else. Some of the Chevys had 4 to 6 inches in the back floorboard after the cage was installed. Crown Vics had 14 to 18 inches with the front seat all the way back and the cage in there. Roomy cars.
Roper’s Knot Pages – Hitches – Constrictor knot
Lots o’ Knots! This link was found at Humu Kon Tiki » Blog Archive » How to Build a Tiki Bar .
Lots of closeups of knot illustrations. Good stuff!
Update: A new user, illbixby has commented on this and posted (see comments) a scan he did of a drawing of a transom lashing which he used building the tiki bar, which I will also post here for reference. Thanks illbixby! Not sure if knotphile is a word or not but it should be! ;-) Also including the picture of the transom knot marlin, again for reference.

Transom Lashing

It’s hard to improve on perfection so here’s Steve’s morning email pointing to Wired News: The Ultimate Blog Post:
Since I’m too lazy at the moment (and have chipotle sauce on my hands from my Subway sandwich, also) I just hit reply, and here is another one that I found amusing:

For your blog it would be, I guess:
Technoprimitive: Mud-oven baked pizza tasted great for all the soft-BB warriors as we plotted the overthrow of the Bush administration before the Republican-funded yellow jacket/mutant sub-woofer attack ruined all of our plans. A bamboo litter was used to remove the wounded. (Click to see close up of connections and knots)

Thanks for the mind movies, Steve! 😉

Mainly a bookmark for me. Looks interesting and may be what I am looking for. Then again so may a pad and pen.

Makes me want boat drinks… 😉
This looks like a good first bamboo project. Wish they had shown close ups of the tieoff points and knots. But over all not a bad article.

Forgive me, Starbucks, for I have sinned
John Bailey is always a good read. On his off days it’s still a pleasant break just to see a bit inside a life not my own in a country I have never been to. On his good days he’s wonderful. This post is one of the good ones. He confronts Starbucks personal concerning their ultra stupid rule about not allowing customers to use cameras within their establishment. Damn good advertising for the other folks Starbucks! Me hat’s off to ya John.
DenverPost.com – Veggie thieves’ penalty tossed
Looks like the internet strikes again. Seems that the folks that prosucated the kids for stealing vegies meant for a pig farm have had a change of heart. Course they are not available for comment… 😉
a cardboard box upright bass | BlogCadre
This is truly a homemade upright bass. Neck is a board, strings are weed whacker cord, tuning knobs are faucit handles, body is a cardboard box, and pickup is a RadioShack piezo buzzer with the body removed. And it sounds pretty good judging from the audio from the video. Good stuff!
Travelogue UK (1) – Bobulate
This is Adriaan de Groot’s experience riding in the cab of a Dutch train. No hitech, no computer link at all. Comunication with the train and between workers is by radio. Weird situation and interesting read.
monkeybrains.net – Rudy’s (and Alex, and Rafael) ISP
Rudy Rucker Jr.’s ISP. Different. On several levels.
OpenStreetMap
Cool! Will take a while to map the whole world but it sure looks like the open source community is making a good start on it.
Scotsman.com Heritage & Culture – Myths & Mysteries – Conan Doyle and the hoax of the 20th century
Interesting conclusions. From what I have read of and by him I would think that yes he could be the guilty party or at least involved. Way to go Sir Arthur!
YouTube – Broadcast Yourself.
geriatric1927 is still going. Some good footage of a dying breed. Good stuff!
Burning Man: Black Rock City Year Round – Webcast
Here is the url for the webcast but looks like it’s toast. Been trying to get a video feed from it for 3 days now and no joy. Now looks like the site may be down too. Video feed is at  http://137.110.119.202/live.sdp for those wanting to try anyway. Wish I was there!
William Gibson – Official Website
Guess the title says it all. Blog, books, assorted bits and bytes. Good stuff!
Cory Doctorow’s craphound.com » News
