Another Thursday Done
Didn’t feel up to going to work on the saw this morning, or afternoon either for that matter. Did get out and go take some pictures and talk with a customer about a website we are working on for him for a while this afternoon. Afterwards went and got a few things at the grocery store and then came back here and ate. Other than that and spending a little while doing some more cleanup and updating/upgrading on the websites this morning have been lying down. Gonna try for a better day tomorrow. Till then…
Yesterday was somewhat different, and interesting. Had an Apple rep come by and leave us with 3 Macbooks and an Xserve. He showed us a bunch of stuff on the Xserve that was really neat. The integration with Windoze AD is really impressive, and to say that the interface is better than Windoze is understatement of a rather high level. I mean, you can do stuff in AD on Windows Server 2003 (which I rather admire, actually–it is a very stable and capable OS–especially for Windoze) but it is ALWAYS a pain in the ass. I mean, Why, oh Lord, is it necessary to use something like 8 or 10 mouseclicks/Enters to add a user to a group? With the Xserve, it was one click and then drag and drop whoever you want. I mean, it takes somewhere around 5 or 6 clicks to get to the damn LIST of people in Server 2003. And the Xserve comes out of the box with a host of apps that in some cases seem as if they were tailored to what we are trying to do, and finding very frustrating/expensive to implement. Yes, it costs more than a Dell server, but it does more, also. We wouldn’t want ALL of are servers to be Xserves (well, maybe we would WANT them to be, but it’s not practical for a number of reasons) but one or a few could come in very useful. Here’s hoping. We have two weeks to play with the hardware, I have some ideas in mind….QuickTime streaming is cool!
Today is the TechBlitz, and it is Gadsden City Schools, not Etowah County. My bad, I get confused easy some days. Should be interesting, and as long as I have some guidelines I think I can be a good judge. Or good enough, anyway. Looking forward to seeing what the kids have come up with.
Until later…
