Monday kind of Tuesday
Been trying to get it going all day but haven’t gotten near as much done as I needed to.
The server errors are getting to the point I am gonna move the sites soon. Have looked at several possible hosts and almost settled on 2. There is a fair cost difference between the two and will most likely go with the cheaper but still trying to make up my mind. Tis gonna be a lot of data to move and hate to do it but things are not getting any better so am gonna have to do something.
Spent far too much time today setting up a LAMP server on this machine here at home and then putting wordpress on it to check it all out. After I got the first copy working made a backup of the database for technoprimitive.org, copied the wp folder over and imported the backup. After some playing around with phpMyAdmin got it working on here. Now just got to backup another 7 or 8 other wp sites as well as several other database intensive sites and make sure I can get them all working after the move. Joy, joy, joy… 🙁
Not gonna do it tonight though. Done all I’m gonna do other than hit the publish button on here and then go to bed. Till tomorrow… 😉
Yes, the errors have been getting rather numerous. Oh, the joys of admin! We are getting into that now, we have to replace seven servers at work. Three will be Xserves (which ought to be interesting–I know it’s easier to setup the Xserves, but they are unfamiliar, so it will be interesting) and four Dells. All of the servers are Quad-core Xenons, and all have (IIRC) four gigs of RAM. Unbelievable–I mean, the amount of computer power these things represent is just awesome. Of course, on the Dell side, the applications that are running on the machines really, really, REALLY need awesome computing power. They are database-intensive programs, and, how should I say this, they are not as elegantly written as the could be. Get my drift? They are slow-ass resource hogs, in other words. So, we are going to throw them a ton more resources and hope they stay in the pen and roll in the mud happily for a few more years. I can guarantee that the people coding the programs will increase their appetite enough to make sure we have to do this all over again in a few years. But for a little while, at least, they should run well. Once we get them up and going on the new machines. I anticipate some fun there, but that is what the summer is for, yes? Fun?
As to Tuesday, it went, but it was long. And tiring. Today will be interesting too, I feel sure. All kinds of things to do…..
This post is still not showing a comment though tis here. Let’s see if I add one if it will show two…
