Used a filter but it overflowed one side (I guess). Must have had the heat too high. Was on top of the woodburner so hard to regulate heat.

Being worthless this morning. Tried a new (to me) stove top coffee percolator a bit earlier and it added grounds to the coffee. 🙁

Back from Wally World. Had to make a quick trip out to get weekend potables which we forgot earlier. Am in for the evening and warming up.

Can almost feel my toes again after being inside in the warmth for about 20 minutes. Sneakers are just NOT cold weather shoes. 🙁

Also added foam weatherstripping around the front qhut door. Seems to have at least slowed some of the cold air coming in from the north.

Been out on the north side of the qhut stuffing cracks with plastic bags. Have found that they work great to backfill before caulking.

Alexandria AL Foodland has a great sale on store brand canned tomatoes, ham shanks and hamburger for any in local area. We stocked up!

Back from PO and grocery run. Ended up picking up some stuff for my folks then taking it to them so ended up sitting and talking a while.

Managed to get it up to 60.3 downstairs today. Not near as comfortable as it was in here yesterday. Wood stove eating 2x yesterdays fuel.

Sun shining, north wind blowing, very light snow flurries, & cold as the proverbial well diggers a$$ in Montana. Must be winter in Alabama.

“Unknown Number” just called. I quickly told them if they were trying to sell me something they had the wrong person. They hung up. 🙂

http://tech.slashdot.org/story/10/01/08/0245200/Full-Body-Scanners-Violate-Child-Porn-Laws Does this mean kids get to carry the bombs now?

Well our sites are back up again. They were down for 4+ hours this morning. Will hope it was due to weather. Still not a happy camper. 🙁

Have about had it with my hosting company. Keep getting “Failed to connect to” when trying to get to my sites. Tis gonna be a pain to move.

And tis snowing. Light flakes for the most part but tis certainly coming down and as cold as it it, sticking. 21.7 F at 10 am on back porch.

Coffee made, mustache waxed (so it doesn’t get into the coffee), wood stove reloaded, breakfast oatmeal about done. Must be morning…

Tis later than I had planned on being awake. Time to hit the sack as the stoves feeding time will have me up by 2 and again between 4 n 5.

again. Still quite cozy in here with the additional fan moving the air around.

Have knocked ice off the plastic tarps covering the carports, that I use as work and storage areas, once and will go out in a few and do it

Still got some ice falling though the radar isn’t showing any in the area. Quite slick outside on cement and boards.

above the pegboard and below the windows. Still trying to figure a way to make insulated shutters for those windows. Also moved the couch

Been doing some work upstairs today. Added peg board to the wall over the woodburner so things can’t fall onto it. Then put up a shelf

Snow falling pretty heavy now North of Weaver, Al. Starting to stick a bit. Radar is showing that this is about as heavy as it will be.

Epic Kludge In one way I kinda like it, in another wonder WTH?

Much less expensive way than wasting kilowatts to make coffee if you have a woodburner that you heat with though.

Guess I need to look in the camping section as that is the only place I have seen percolators in recent years.

Hot perked coffee! Only problem is that around here the only filters I can find are for drip machines or the cone filters. No percolators.

Coffee won! Just started perking and so far nary a flake o’ snow. 5 minutes to caffeine!

Sitting here in front of the fire waiting to see if the snow they are predicting will start falling or the if coffee will perk first…

RT @boingboing DIY mosquito killing device Boing Boing Awesome! And looks highly dangerous, so gets double points!

We’ll see. Getting the one outside that had rusted out replaced should take care of the dripping out there too. Again, will see tomorrow.

moisture that is, out of the air and then drips it inside. With the pipe at a better down angle I think it will run on down into the stove

down as it does overnight, that’s when the outside 12+ foot of single wall flue acts as a really nice condensing column and sucks mosture

Love wood heat but this kind of thing is best done in the spring or fall when the outside temp is where the house can be wide open.

So tis getting quite cool in here but the air is not smelling as toxic as it was a minute ago. Flue temp is back to about 350 and dropping.

Think the flue is as hot as I ever want to get it so cut the dampers down. Opened the front door and Cat has putting the fan in the window.

Soup is on and close to boiling already. Flue temp is approaching 400 degrees F and stink is starting to subside. Or my nose is striking.

stink so bad. Need to get a pot of soup started. Gonna go and dig out some veggies and such from the freezer. Back in a bit.

Ah, starting to smell it now and it’s only up to 200 degrees. 🙁 Wish they would use the 1200 degree paint on the stuff so it wouldn’t

Waiting for the inside piece to start smoking and burn off the paint so I can get good and sick and open doors and windows and freeze.

Back from the store where the threat of minor amounts of snow had driven folks crazy. Got the flue pipe and got both pieces installed.

With the snow predicted tomorrow am going to get milk as well as a couple of new sections of 8″ flue pipe. Back in a bit.

May have too much oil in them but will just have to wait and see. Hopefully they won’t catch fire… 😉

Look better and are much tighter. Will have to see how well they last compared to the oak I used last time.

Cut it into two 6 inch pieces, bored 1/2 inch holes into one end of each piece and put the new handles on the woodburner doors.

Just moved the shaving horse to where I could use it. Dug a piece of cedar from the pile of firewood, shaved it down to somewhat round.

Epic Kludge http://thereifixedit.com/2010/01/06/vacuum-sealed-rotisserie-chicken/ #humor With a perfectly balanced chicken maybe. LOL!

But now I want more coffee.

Fixing lentil, potato, and ham soup for lunch. With a side of ham, cheddar, rosemary, and basil, hoe cakes on the side.

They are not amused…

Felines are complaining about the cold. Want us to do something about it I guess. I keep telling them to go kill something to warm up.

Now for more coffee and a thawing out session in front of the woodburner. Sweating in places but still got frozen/cold bits…

Chain has got to be resharpened prior to cutting the remaining cedar on the trailer so will get done later. 5 rounds of gum left to split.

Wood pile(s) restacked with larger/longer stuff removed and split/cut up. Remaining gum log cut to splitting length and 3 rounds split.

All feeds read. Procrastanated as long as I can. Wood still needs to be stacked so am going out to get er done. Back soon…

Mustache waxed, first couple of cups of coffee consumed, breakfast eaten. Ready for more coffee, then time to get the split wood put up.

Caffeinated Dave coming soon. 🙂 Supposed to get to mid 30’s today and upper 30’s tomorrow, so guess this is our heat wave for the week.

ago had me shivering and adding clothes are still somewhat cool but no big deal. Ah, coffee is finally perking on the woodburner.

Quite chilly this am. Overnight low on the back porch was 15.4 F. Inside here now is a balmy 51.6 and rising. Funny how temps that 2 days

Firebox is loaded for first of the nightly burns, so time for me to hit the sack. Till tomorrow folks… 😉

Must remember to only wear them for a short time each day till I get used to them. Had them on over 5 hours today, so maybe a bit too long.

Getting them off feels SO good. Just checked the weight and they weigh 2.75 lbs each! Was wondering why my upper legs were hurting in front.

Got the fire going and it feels quite good. Gotta get these new (to me) steel toed boots off and see if I can feel my feet.

she is back out there stacking more now. Checked and told her that was enough for the night. Too cold out there to be messing with it.

Cut up some more of the cedar as well as all but one 6+ foot long section of the gum. Bill came by and helped me split all but 2 rounds of

Filed the gauge teeth and resharpened the chainsaw teeth and the saw cuts much better now. Is no longer requiring force from me to cut.

Heading to PO to mail out the last Aflac 2004 duck which we just sold on E-Bay. Back in a bit.

has a bit of trouble biting into them. Guess I need to file the depth gauges down a bit. Now to find that file.

Lunch heating (can of soup) in microwave. Afterwards will get back to the firewood splitting. Some of the logs are frozen and chain saw

Cut up some more of the gum logs that I dragged in the other day. Started splitting them n got over heated though still below freezing out.

Quite cool this morning. Think it’s up to just over 50 F in here now. Coffee is finally perking. Breakfast cooked. Mustache waxed.

Gonna call it a night. Till tomorrow… 😉

Last post should have said “Turned out everything but the porch light”

turned out but the porch light with door open and it flew back out. Dropped the temp in here about 5 degrees but is rapidly regaining it.

peppered, and added a bit of oregano to the veggies and poured them around the ham. Figure another 1.5 to 2 hours and it will all be done.

to get the roaster back to 325 F. Peeled and cut up a pound of carrots, 2 large onions, 5 leaves of celery, and 10 medium potatoes. Salted

Back from a trip to Wally World. Put the ham on prior to going but cut the heat off while gone. Came back and it only took about 10 minutes

Not sure that my current 🙂 power setup in the kitchen will run it. Gonna plug it in and see. Wanting to cook a ham and some veggies.

Got a countertop roaster for christmas. Just unboxed it and it looks okay. Uses 1450 watts which at 125 volts comes to 11.6 amps.

from the kitchen to the loft. That bit of covering will be coming soon, just got to figure what I want to use to cover it up.

the kitchen. Did that last winter and it helped quite a bit. Got one more area to cover into the top of the qhut and that’s the stairway

Fart fan is hooked to a piece of 4″ DWV that goes through the qhut south wall and into the kitchen ceiling to move air from upstairs into

in the kitchen portion of the qhut. Am not feeling near the draft that I had been while sitting here with the fart fan going in the bedroom.

New plastic up on all of south facing windows not already covered. Took rest of the roll and with a couple of 1×2’s covered the open area

Got a bad case of dizzies (ears are stopped up so most likely sinus problems) again today so may have to put the ladder work off till later.

About to go out and see what I can get done toward cutting down on drafts. Am going to start with plastic over the south windows.

Up to almost 60 down here. Suspect it’s around 70 upstairs. Gotta get the rest of the loft done so I can get the ceiling fan over the stove.

Coffee made, oatmeal done and thickening, Cat wakened (though not willingly), wood brought in and already burned, must be winter in Dixie…

Tis about time to call it a night. Will be up every 2 to 3 hours to reload the firebox, so will not get a good nights sleep. Later, folks…

wall just below roof line that I have been meaning to get around to for several years. Hope tomorrow is the day that it gets covered.

Porch wood storage loaded up for the night. Big pile in floor in here. Scaffolding moved to by front door to get ready to fix hole in north

Got the last north side window done. Looked at the south side and then came back in. May wait till tomorrow.

Soup and fritter eaten. Trying to get up the initiative to go out to finish the north side. Here in front of the fire feels good though.

and warm up. Not necessarily in that order. Will cut and install plastic on south wall windows after lunch. Lunch call. Back after hot food.

3 windows covered. Last one on north side cleaned of staples and ready to cover. Ran out of staples in pouch/gun/box and came in to eat

Better than what I had but I need to get a current picture of the stove to use. Now to go back into the cold and put up plastic.

Should be out working on the windows but been futzing with the header image on my blog – http://technoprimitive3.wordpress.com/

piled up out there now to take me a couple of days to work through. Guess I’m warm enough now to face the cold again and do the plastic.

this morning. Ah, well I needs the exercise. Just hope the tractor will crank in the next couple of days. Have enough to cut and split

doesn’t look like it’s gonna make it the way the stove is eating it right now. Have already gone through what had been normal for a day

From the temps predicted for the next few days I am gonna have to cut more wood too. Had hoped to get a week out of the pile I have but

Or clear enough to get the plastic up. Came in to warm up a bit. Tis quite a change from the mid 50’s to low 60’s we had last week.

Also emptied the can of condensation from the flue. Has a large creosote component and works very well to kill red ant hills.

Breaks down by the middle of the summer, but works fine for the season needed and tis cheap, quick and easy.
