Another day gone

Little done but lived through it. Which is better than the alternative I guess at that. Not sure what is on the agenda for tomorrow. Figure we will see when it gets here. Till then…

‘Twas a Friday, for sure. Got some stuff done, but nothing remarkable. Went to “The Hobbit” at JHS last night, and it was pretty good. Condensing a book like “The Hobbit” into a 2 hour play (including intermission) necessarily leaves out VOLUMES, to say the least. Since I read the book (more than 30 years ago) I got to explain WTF was happening to my wife and her relatives that came. THAT was interesting…the play was pretty well done, I think, the only constructive criticism (note–NOT complaint) I would offer would be to make the changes between scenes snappier. Other than that, it was very enjoyable, with the usual moments of unintended humor. I saw part of the dress rehearsal Thursday, and after the battle scene they kill the lights and toss arms and legs all over the stage to illustrate the carnage after the battle. Well, the lighting folks turned on the lights just a tad early, and here was Thorin with an arm and a leg in his hands, looking more than a little bit like a deer in the headlights. The faculty sponsor called out to him to toss the body parts and get off of the stage, which he did, with a little bit of a “buck and a wing” kind of shuffle. It was hilarious. I have been to several of the plays at JHS and at JSU, and while the performances may not be Broadway quality, the enthusiasm of the players at both places make them very enjoyable. The 7th and 8th grade goblins in the play last night REALLY threw themselves into their roles-which, it must be said, is for the most part typecasting. I know the thought of 7th and 8th grade goblins scares the hell out of ME!

Today starts the Mythwars again, and I go forth armed with a video to show me how to configure Mythdora. If that doesn’t work, I’m going to check out another distro–ain’t Linux GRAND? Hope today is better for you, the pollen has now arrived and my head is full of stuff that feels terrible and looks worse. Ah, well, c’est le vie.
