DenverPost.com – Veggie thieves’ penalty tossed

Looks like the internet strikes again.  Seems that the folks that prosucated the kids for stealing vegies meant for a pig farm have had a change of heart.  Course they are not available for comment… 😉

One of those days

By , September 7, 2006 4:39 pm

After spending 4 hours getting ready to being able to move a chair, the hole I was looking for (to run ethernet cable in) wasn’t under it after all. So I went to the next isle and started to kneel down to look closer as the light right at the wall isn’t too good. As I went down I kicked back with my left foot as my right knee went to the floor, which would have been fine if the bottom corner of the subwoofer (30 inch cube, made of a sheet and a half or so of 5/8 particle board, and HEAVY (this equates to very non moving)) hadn’t been in the way of my ankle as it went by. Tore a bit of skin off and made me say many bad words but seemed to be ok so while I was down there anyway I looked for the hole for the ethernet cable to feed through. Getting up it was a bit painful but not too bad. The swelling started about half way down the hall. By the time I was in the center room by the display cases I was limping and holding on to the nearest case. Looked at the ankle and wondered where the egg (medium) attached to it had come from. I limped back here (Repair shop) as it has an air conditioner and the computers, since the ethernet isn’t run yet. 🙁 Got a chair and some pillows and ice (thanks Cat!) and am sitting with the foot in the chair wanting to be out finishing up the cable run. Waiting is… A real pain at times like these…

Instructions for making the pickup from the piezo buzzer.  Simple enough.  Love repurposing stuff like this.

a cardboard box upright bass | BlogCadre

This is truly a homemade upright bass. Neck is a board, strings are weed whacker cord, tuning knobs are faucit handles, body is a cardboard box, and pickup is a RadioShack piezo buzzer with the body removed. And it sounds pretty good judging from the audio from the video. Good stuff!

Travelogue UK (1) – Bobulate

This is  Adriaan de Groot’s experience riding in the cab of a Dutch train.  No hitech, no computer link at all.  Comunication with the train and between workers is by radio.  Weird situation and interesting read.

Treehugger: Is it Art Or an Environmental Statement?

It’s called shelter. The most basic of human needs. While I admire the art in the work/building he is doing, I think admire folks that live that way more.

Get thee away, thou foul stinking instrument of satan! This is so much worse than the plugin odor maskers. I hope they come with warnings for folk that are hyper sensitive to odors.

2 thumbs down!

Laptop Hard Drive Repair Success

By , September 5, 2006 12:01 pm

Just a quick post to say to Steve that this post is being written on a machine using the damaged hard drive. Got the latest and greatest pclos distro and after a fairly short time installing and then a LONG time finding a good ethernet card seems to be working fine. Am upgrading it to the most current software now. So it will come back to you with pclos preloaded. You’ll have to configure some of it but it should work. And the drive seems to be fine now… 😉

Boing Boing: Is it legal to look at the Web in Canada?

Boing Boing: Is it legal to look at the Web in Canada?

Total stupidity.  Teh whole freaking world is going DRM nuts.  Now by using DRM someone (?) is either going to charge all the Canadian schools a fee to use the internet or will kindly LET the poor little kiddies use it under a blanket educational license.  Soon ALL the data are gonna be belonging to someone and everyone will have to pay to see anything and have to use special equipment or software to do so because someone may look at WORDS without paying.
