lf382, Applications: A toolchain for transformation from paper to HTML

Good article on taking old books, scanning, OCR, modifying images and turning into html online docs.  Using old or at least older equipment and FOSS for the entire process.

JS Online:The hog that hums

Electric Harley.  The part I have trouble with here is the 560 pounds of lead acid batteries in the frame.  And the exposed belt drive coming out the side.  And the uglyness (sp?) of the beast.  That much weight, build a trike…

NEUTICLES.com

Steve mentioned this site in the comments on the “I’m from the internet” picture and I just had to look.  This is just plain WEIRD.  Money making weird I’m sure but still, testicle implants for your neutered pet?  If you want them to have balls, just don’t cut them off!  This is NUT’S! 😉

L-Box Carrier

Never seen these before, and I don’t understand why they aren’t everywhere, other than the cost. One of the stories quoted a cost (my price translation from english pounds to us dollars may be off) of around $2,000.00 for a kid carrier version. None the less, these are wonderful! I’m gonna have to build one or more along these lines for use around here.

Fighting for Net Neutrality and Internet Freedom

The fight for net neutrality takes on a somewhat surreal air with a visit to this site.  Strange is almost the word.  Not quite the “I’m from the Internet” kind of strange but close…

Bamboo Bike at Burningman

Wish there was more on this neat looking bike but that it. The person who took the picture doesn’t seem to want to share their work as there is no option to download ANY size copy of this.

The amazing part of this particular bike is that wheel struts and all seem to be bamboo. Wonderful work. Fair photography. Non-Burningman attitude toward sharing on the part of the uploader.

Update: Went to the page source code and found the image link and stole a copy of the damn thing. Cropped it down to the part I was interested in and that’s what’s left above.  The link will take you to the full thing on flicker.  If the owner bitches I will take it down but this is such wonderful work I want my own archival copy for future reference.

Looks like the Barbie lawsuit may have been a advertisement for the artist.  Matel says no lawsuit planned.

This is awsome!

Hippo dinner ware

Dude commisioned a 144 piece set.  All costs ended setting him back $400K.  One hell of an art collection!

Dr. Megavolt

Looks like a birdcage on his head.  This and the next have huge originals which show some interesting detail.  The next one shows him lighting a neon lamp while taking a 6 foot or so strike while on the stool.  I bet dollars to donuts that the stool is a good insulator!

BTW – I would LOVE to do this!

Never Was Haul

This thing is wonderful.  There is a large pix on flicker at the link above that shows good detail.  There is a previous post here somewhere for the Tribe site that built it.  Wish there were inside pix of it but this is better detail than I have seen yet.  The same guy has a good pix of the Case Steam engine that they use to move it with.  Tis the next or the previous from the link.  Good Stuff!

MAKE: Blog: HOW TO – Make a hand cranked document shredder

Start with an old broken shredder, cut, weld, attach handle, attach brackets, attach under bench, shred.  Not quite a from scratch project but not bad at all.  Seems like I have an old shredder around here somewhere that has a burned out motor… 😉

Saved from being roadfill. Tis one of the coolest things I have seen in a while. Basic but fairly good article. The picture above doesn’t show the impressions very well but the drawing below does.

Not only Viral DRM but won’t play their own files. Now this is just REAL STUPID!  Is SCO running the R&D department for Micro$loth now?
