The Quest For Every Beard Type – Jon Dyer’s Blog
This is one of the most unusual and long lasting pursuits into assorted beard growing I have run across. Interesting endeavor. And quite cool! 😉 Says he who has maintained a beard (mostly just through not shaving at all) since the middle of September, 1975 (if memory serves), which if I am counting right is 32 years and 7 months. 😉
Handbook of hardware pinouts, cables schemes and connectors layouts @ pinouts.ru
For hardware geeks. This site has more info on cables and connectors than any one place I have ever seen! Great stuff!
Looked at the 20″ Acer on the Wallyworld website again this am and they had dropped the price to 184.88. Decided to go out and about and see what was available in the stores around here. First stop was at J’ville where they had the same one as online but the price tag was 228.88. Pass. Next stop was the one in Lenlock. Same thing. Had them in stock but 228.88. Southward we go. Next stop Office Max. I had tried their website and the prices were higher than Wallyworld so this stop was just to verify what I had seen online. Well I got a shock! They had a 22″ Soyo for 199.99 and a 20″ for 169.99 among others. All sale prices but still. The 22″ was a hundred dollars off! Went next door to Circuit City to take a quick look and went back and got the 22″. Added their 1 year screw it up and they still replace it warranty for another 25 bucks and walked out 250 poorer but with a super nice monitor. Model is MT-NI-DYLM2286 for anyone interested. Wallyworlds online price is 229.88. So glad I didn’t end up getting one through them.

And it’s got built in speakers. Not the greatest but they’ll do, and I don’t have a pair taking up desk space anymore. 🙂 🙂 🙂 Now I just got to get busy and do some website work to pay for it… Tis late so am gonna do just a bit more reading feeds (on my nice new BIG monitor) and then call it a night. Till tomorrow…
Tectonic » South Africa adopts ODF as a national standard
After all the BS about OOXML here in the states and in Europe, I’m glad to see that South Africa has made a sane choice and is making ODF the national standard. Good going guys!
Victorian All-in-One PC | The Steampunk Workshop
Jake von Slatt does it again. This time with a 24 inch flat screen. Interestingly enough the one he chose is the same brand that I picked up today, a SOYO, though I ended up with a 22″ model. Still a super nice monitor, especially for the price. But mine doesn’t look quite as nice.
David Hembrow, basketmaker – Wheelie shopping basket
I really like this design. Gonna have to try making one for myself.
Title about says it all. Today was one of those days that just never came together. Lots I needed to get done but little that got accomplished. Hopefully tomorrow will be more productive. Till then…
U.S. Border Patrol goes Big Brother in Washington State – Boing Boing
J. T. Glover says: “This is an article from the Seattle Times about how the U.S. Border Patrol is questioning U.S. citizens traveling within the U.S. (from island to mainland) on the grounds that some of them might be terrorists. When pressed, a deputy chief patrol agent for the area admitted that anyone stopped who refuses to answer questions–as is their legal right–is let go. Clever terrorists escape, citizens are inconvenienced, and an unknown amount of drug smuggling or illegal immigration is halted.”
Just a matter of time till the old “Your papers please” won’t be a joke. And it doesn’t catch terrorists.
Light fixtures made from old CRTs – Boing Boing
Not sure whether to cringe due to the toxicity or applaud the ingenuity. Tis interesting either way I guess.
Disneyland bans pictures in its parking lots – Boing Boing
No taking photos in the s33kr1t Disneyland parking lots! I mean, sure, they’re full of CCTVs taking pictures of you, but just because you’re paying $80 for the day, plus $10 to park, why should you feel free to steal the Mouse’s precious, precious parking-lot photons? After all, those photos could be used by Al Quaeda to coordinate a strike on the Mouse House!
And strike two. 👿 Another security guard on another continent yet has the same misguided belief that he works for the SS and what he says is law. Piss on him and Mickey! 👿
Middlesbrough cops, goons and clerks grab and detain photographer for shooting on a public street – Boing Boing
Moments later as i walked away this goon jumped in front of me and demanded to know what i was doing. i explained that i was taking photos and it was my legal right to do so, he tried to stop me by shoulder charging me, my friend started taking photos of this, he then tried to detain us both. I refused to stand still so he grabbed my jacket and said i was breaking the law. Quickly a woman and a guy wearing BARGAIN MADNESS shirts joined in the melee and forcibly grabbed my friend and held him against his will. We were both informed that street photography was illegal in the town.
This is just plain stupid! Seems like every time I read the news lately some arsehat is accosting a law abiding citizen because he or she is taking a picture. Idiots! 👿
Heroes of Lesser Earth: You Got a Light?
The Olympics are in China this year, as anyone not living under a giant golden buddha knows. The yearly relay around the world, this year including 21 countries and dubbed the “Journey of Harmony†by China, has been in full swing. The Chinese government is hoping that the relay will draw attention to their nation, and display what a good and responsible neighbor they are, and showcase China’s sudden economic boom. This kind of thinking has historical precedent.
Interesting, and a bit scary too.
Chumby hackers go to town – Boing Boing
Gotta love open hardware! Some neat projects.
Ayahuasca church spreads into UK – Boing Boing
Interesting.
Yea, hell of a title but that’s been my gripe all day. Guess I over did it yesterday with the bending and squatting while working on the truck, cause the muscles in my arse have been screaming at me all day long. Along with the ones on the inside of my upper legs. Ah, will this too will pass. Just wish it would hurry…
Got the info so I could point the domain name at the new site. Got the transfer done and set up the site then installed WordPress and got it configured. Found and downloaded a theme and installed it and have several posts transfered over so far. Still got the e-commerce program to install and configure and then some cross linking between the two to figure out. Slowly, slowly, eats the elephant…
Found and modified a plug-in for WordPress to make it show the posts in the categories on the Nero Wolfe site from oldest at the top to newest at the bottom using the post ID. Had been looking at the code in the theme I am using but things weren’t making sense for some reason. Turned out I was looking at the wrong file 🙄 so I could have done it without the plug-in but this way I can always turn it off and don’t have to modify anything if I change themes so it’s all good!
Walked across and looked at the ground around where the boat had been and it looks like the deed was done prior to the last rain as there are no tracks around where it was dragged to be loaded into the truck. And from the paint on some rocks it was dragged. I suspect it was a couple of drunk rednecks that ride by on a regular basis and kept seeing it sitting there. Wish I could have seen the looks on their faces when they saw what a piece of crap they stole. 😆
Gonna read a few feeds and hit the sack. Till tomorrow… 😉
And two in a row I just about bust a gut on. Must have been something in the air over the weekend. 😆 😆 😆
The whole thing is good the Python reference is LOL funny! 😆 😆 😆
25 minute composition: “The Most Unwanted Song” – Boing Boing
